SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will have the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Educated in a human factors related subject (Product Design, Engineering, Psychology)
  • 2+ years applying human factors in a related sector
  • Experience of providing Human Factors support to Safety Cases, such as development and substantiation of Human-Based Safety Claims.
  • Experience of applying Human Reliability (failure) Assessment methods and techniques within the high hazard industry, such as task and error analysis, HEART and, or, other forms of HRA analysis.
  • Extensive experience of conducting Defence related HF projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant UK and international standards/guidance and their application, including Def Stan 00-251.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Substantial experience or working directly with clients and representatives from stakeholders.
  • Competent use the normal suite of MSOffice applications; these should include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Excellent communication skills and consultation proficiency; together with intrapersonal emotional self-awareness and integrity. And,
  • Evidence of a commitment to technical excellence and continued professional development

Desirable / Preferred:

  • You are a registered member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF), are chartered, or are willing to work towards chartered membership. Alternatively you can demonstrate professional membership(s) in other suitable domains and are willing to apply for membership to the CIEHF

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of the Senior Human Factors Engineer is to provide competent HF support and oversee some of the HF operational needs of the company for CDS DS’s clients who are predominantly in the UK Defence domain.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be the primary focal point for delivery of Human Factors input to client programmes including:

  • Human Computer Interaction (HCI) development and assessment including agile engineering approaches
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) assessment: Spatial, workplace and workspace assessment (understanding of anthropometry and ergonomics)
  • Cognitive workload assessment
  • Human Factors Integration Plan (HFIP) development and management of the technical HF elements of the plan
  • Human failure assessment and submission of assessments in support of safety cases
  • Provision of Human Factors advice to stakeholders across the range of disciplines
  • Control of time and budget of HF programmes of work and tasks within larger contracts.
