DESCRIPTION
This position is offered as a fourteen-month contract to cover maternity leave.
The Sr. Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a trusted advisor and coach to GS1 Canada’s leaders, managers, and employees, driving business strategy aligned people initiatives impacting employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, organizational change, talent management, diversity and inclusion, performance, and culture.
A true generalist, the HRBP provides day-to-day performance management guidance to the GS1 Canada’s management team through coaching, career development, counseling, and disciplinary actions. In this capacity, the HR Business Partner manages and resolves complex employee-relations issues.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE
- Completion of post-secondary education (College or University) specializing in Human Resource Management.
- Attained CHRP designation or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- 5-7 years in a Human Resources function or Human Resources generalist role with a focus on retention and recruitment, employee relations, talent management, compensation and salary administration in a customer focused environment.
- Experience working with managers at all levels, providing coaching and guidance on human relations issues.
- Ability to influence and lead without direct authority.
- Strong customer service orientation, especially as it relates to delivering against organizational strategic goals.
- Demonstrated agility to succeed in a high change, fast paced environment, juggling multiple time sensitive priorities.
- Hands on experience with the HR systems preferably ADP’s, Workforce Now (WFN).
- Strong business and financial acumen.
- Bilingualism (French & English) an asset as we support employees and subscribers all across Canada.
- Knowledge of relevant labour codes and labour law requirements in Quebec and Ontario.
- Experience in complex conflict and issue resolution.
- Proven ability to take initiative and drive for results.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships at all levels within an organization.
- Working knowledge of Project Management and change management methodologies.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.

Responsibilities:
The Human Resources Business Partner is expected to deliver strategic partnership to people managers and employees. This includes:
- Modelling and reinforcing GS1 Canada’s People First approach to employee engagement by balancing business requirements with doing what is needed to empower employees to excel.
- Maintaining a regular cadence of business check-ins with department leaders and employees to proactively maintain positive, proactive people practices across the organization.
- Aligning people programs and practices with business strategy to ensure GS1 Canada delivers value to our subscribers.
- Providing insight into people related metrics (engagement, attrition, total rewards) impacting the successful achievement of results.
- Supporting the optimization of people and processes through the creation of optimal organization structure.
- Providing guidance and input on workforce planning, business unit restructures, and succession planning to create productive environments for employees and drive organizational health and attainment of business goals while ensuring changes are applied appropriately and in a legally compliant manner.
- Provides coaching to employees, people leaders, and senior leaders on a variety of people topics including:o Employee Relations and performance managemento Innovative solutions to enhance the employee experience.o Career development and competency building to support GS1 Canada values, culture and critical skill needs.
- Facilitating and teaching conflict resolution, promoting a positive work environment
- Guiding people managers to effective resolution of employee relations issues, promoting a positive work environment through effective and objective investigation processes, ensuring adherence to appropriate employment laws and policies.
- Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of current employment legislation and best practices within the jurisdictions GS1 Canada operates, reducing legal risks, guaranteeing regulatory compliance, and most importantly enabling employee engagement and retention.
- Bring best in class recommendations for people practices to the organization, working with the Human Resources Programs team to create a culture of innovation to GS1 Canada’s employee experience.
- Mitigates risk to the organization and employees through continuous policy and practice review, ensuring policy adherence and documentation for all stages of the employee life cycle.
- Proactively identifying opportunities to enhance the employee experience and partner with management to develop and implement innovative and sustainable solutions for improving employee engagement and performance.
- Support leaders through organizational and people change initiatives, ensuring proper communications and engagement of employees.
- Support organizational change initiatives within business units supported.
- Develop strong change and communication plans to support successful adoption of organizational change while engaging and inspiring the workforce.
