Description:

The Senior Human Resources (HR) Specialist role supports both US and domestic HR functional areas. The role reports to the Sr Director HR with dotted line accountability to both the domestic and international HRBP’s/Senior Managers. Responsible for independently managing projects including payroll and benefits administration, onboarding, employee engagement, recruiting, compensation, employee relations, performance management and training. Works with the HR team to ensure consistency across HR global programs. Audit systems and processes regularly to ensure accurate and timely information is provided. Identify and recommend efficiency updates with a focus on providing a high service level to stakeholders. Individual contributor who may supervise daily tasks of more junior team members and/or functional projects.
This position is in our Washington, DC headquarters office, with a hybrid schedule of Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday in the office, Monday & Friday work from home.

PAYROLL: PROCESS HR PAYROLL FOR US EMPLOYEES IN CONJUNCTION WITH ACCOUNTING. FUNCTION AS LEAD PROVIDING ADP SUPPORT FOR THE TEAM, STAFF AND MANAGERS.

Benefits: Lead US benefits administration and support international benefit initiatives.
Performance Management: Assist in all aspects of Performance Management program. Lead and coordinate the annual performance review cycle and training employees on process and timeline. Assist with training of managers and being the point of contract for all communications pertaining to performance management.
Recruitment: Participate in the US recruitment process screening, interviewing, attend job fairs, and perform other talent acquisition related functions. Support international recruiting as needed. Work with Sr HR Director on branding and employer of choice programs
Compensation: Assist with Job Description development for the US (FLSA, compensable factor identification, job grading, legal requirements etc.) Act as primary Point of Contact for participating in external salary surveys for Oceana.
Compliance: Assist in employment law updates and compliance initiatives for both the US & internationally. Work with the HR team to identify and dispense information from appropriate go-to sources to ensure we are update to date and stay up to date with new employment laws globally.
Employee Engagement: Provide guidance on HR policies while developing trusting relationships with staff. Participate in and support various employee initiatives to further a positive working culture. Work with the Sr. HR Director to create a recognition program for Oceana globally. Ensure staff communications and informational materials are current, relevant, and accessible. Create employee facing communications on Life event approach to benefit and leave programs. Partner with HRBP’s to create monthly communications for managers employees globally.
Training: Support current programs & assist in development of new offerings (create materials, research offerings, assist with needs assessments, take and assess new learnings. Train staff in using Oceana’s systems such as ADP, Oceana University, onboarding systems and Oceana’s interfaces with other finance and timekeeping systems.

Job Requirements Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business with HR Specialization preferred.
  • Strongly prefer both international and domestic HR experience in medium to large organizations.
  • Minimum of 5+ years progressive international human resources experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PHR certification (or willingness to become certified) is a plus.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • This role interacts with staff at all levels across the organization sharing information and implementing projects. Requires the ability to work under minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion in all activities.
  • Experience training and helping others apply organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated results in expanding a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong project management skills: task oriented with the ability to identify and resolve issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with ADP (preferred) or related HRIS/HCM.
  • Highly proficient in both spoken and written English required. In addition, Spanish, French or Portuguese would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of human resource laws, regulations, and best practices in countries where Oceana works is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    The salary range for this position is: $82,000 – 87,000K annually. Closing date for applications is October 28,2024
