Description:

YOU WILL DRIVE PUMP DESIGN INTEGRITY, QUALITY AND SAFETY TO MAXIMIZE CUSTOMER SPECIFICATION COMPLIANCE. YOUR DUTY IS TO UNDERTAKE ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES IN LINE WITH ALL RELEVANT PROCESSES AND QUALITY REQUIREMENTS. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO LIAISE WITH DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS AND DISCIPLINES IN ORDER TO ENSURE AN EFFECTIVE & PRODUCTIVE OUTCOME WHILE CONTINUALLY MAINTAINING HIGH QUALITY AND STANDARDS.

Working in a collaborative manner to satisfy the needs of the project and the internal and external customers is essential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Detail Pump Technical Knowledge and experience with rotating equipment and engineered products

  • Excellent Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Interpersonal communication skills necessary to provide direction, support and consultation with employees, sales team, suppliers and customers
  • Must be a self-starter and take initiative
  • Ability to apply classical design techniques and use of tools to undertake the full range of Hydraulic Engineering Design tasks with supervision to support project execution.
  • The ability to interpret hydraulic performance curves, understanding trim rules and performance modifications
  • Previous hydraulic design experience a bonus
  • Team working ability and an attitude of collaboration, mentoring and flexibility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Hydraulic Engineering and P Eng Certification

  • At least ten (10) years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education with additional practical and professional experience

  • Proficient in CAD and 3D modelling software applications
  • Experience in performance test data analysis and processing for compliance against specification
  • Experience with rotating equipment and engineered products
  • Ability to create new or adapting existing presentations to create visually appealing, persuasive, effective presentations to all levels such as but not limited to Senior Management, Shop-floor employees, Customers and Supplier representatives.

Review Customers purchase orders and design specifications for pumps in order to fully understand the pump hydraulic requirements for Original equipment and/or Aftermarket orders.

  • Design a suitable pump to meet the customer’s needs either by selecting from an existing design or designing a new pump.
  • Work on corrective actions, value engineering projects or design centre related activities as appropriate.
  • Work under the technical guidance of the Engineering Manager, Hydraulic Design Manager, Chief Engineer and with Mechanical Engineers and others within other functions in a collaborative manner to achieve project deliverables.
  • Perform all required pump hydraulic checks and calculations to ensure the pump designed is suitable and will safely perform in the required application
  • Manage the creation of all required models, drawings and customer related document submissions
  • Create Hydraulic Review and Hydraulic Traveller along with supporting Pump Performance Test clarification notes
  • Support Pump Performance Test dept with running pump tests, reviewing results, provide revised instructions and dispositions for NCR’s where problems have occurred
  • Support Sales & Tendering with pump hydraulic questions and performance modifications.
  • Interface and support downstream activities post design phase (shop-floor, test, commissioning and warranty)
  • Investigate Root Cause of pump hydraulic design related problems and update designs accordingly.
  • Write design guides and technical papers as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain normalised curve information for range maps and PSD sheets.
  • Maintain company standards relating to the hydraulic discipline to standardize products, processes, tools and calculation procedures to reduce lead-times and risk.
  • Ensure safe working practices and safe product design principles.
  • Review and mark up product drawings, models, layouts as required
  • Ensure design compliance with appropriate international standards such as API 610 & API 674

Responsibilities:

AS A PUMP DESIGN HYDRAULIC ENGINEER, YOUR DAILY ROLE INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, PUMP HYDRAULIC SELECTION INCLUDING CREATION OF MODIFIED IMPELLER AND CASING VOLUTE DESIGNS TO MEET CUSTOM APPLICATIONS. PUMP HYDRAULIC DESIGN CALCULATIONS, HYDRAULIC MODELLING / DRAWINGS, CREATION OF PERFORMANCE CURVES, ANALYSIS AND CREATION OF PUMP PERFORMANCE, NPSH, VIBRATION, NOISE, STRING AND VIBRATION TEST STANDARDS, CONTROL OF HYDRAULIC LOGS, AND CREATION OF TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION FOR MANUFACTURE, SUPPLIER AND CLIENT INTERFACE.

You are responsible for processing customers’ request for quotation and orders and ensuring that the pump selected and manufactured is hydraulically designed for the performance criteria and in compliance with API 610, API 674 or other the applicable customer and international specificationsare also a key member of the Pump Design Centre team for OH2/3/4, BB2, BB3 and Reciprocating product lines and as such involved with product design activities.
