The NSW Resources Regulator (part of NSW Resources) are looking for a Senior Inspector Compliance to undertake investigations and statutory enforcement functions to enforce regulatory obligations and compliance with the Mining Act 1992, associated Regulations and guidelines for opal mining activities within New South Wales (Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs Mineral Claims Districts).
Responsibilities:
YOU’LL ALSO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Providing timely, accurate information and guidance to small-scale claim holders and other key stakeholders in relation to compliance and associated matters.
- Analysing and assessing environmental information, environmental management and rehabilitation plans in accordance with statutory requirements and Departmental policies for opal mining activities.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED TO:
- Have tertiary qualifications awarded by a recognised institution that is relevant to NSW mining legislation, the environment or natural resources management, or law (or equivalent relevant experience)
- Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence.
- Be willing to travel to and work in remote parts of the State.
- Understand and experience in managing compliance and enforcement activities, preferably in Government regulation in mining or a natural resource or environmental management context.
- Have the capacity to undertake investigations and extensive experience in interviewing witnesses and suspects and in applying knowledge of investigative methodologies, rules of evidence and court procedures.
- Have sound knowledge and understanding of mining related environmental impacts, mitigation techniques and current environmental management best practice with respect to mineral exploration and mining.
