The Chief Ombudsman works with his staff to help New Zealanders in their dealings with government agencies. The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. The Chief Ombudsman is independent and impartial, with the goal of fairness for all.

The position of Senior Investigator is responsible for leading and contributing to systemic improvement investigations and interventions in accordance with the agreed work programme and assisting the Manager SII with the scoping, planning, reporting and delivery connected with these investigations.
This is a fast paced role that requires someone who can manage their time effectively and work to a high standard. You must be able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrate the ability to positively influence others and communicate effectively. You must also be objective, dispassionate and have high levels of integrity. The role requires an understanding of public sector practice and the context in which public sector agencies operate. You may also assist with practice development and the mentoring of more junior staff.
