CAM is a specialist wealth manager focusing on generating real returns for its clients. We manage predominantly UK client assets across various tax wrappers and specialise in multi asset investing.
The position on offer is for a candidate that is enthusiastic, curious, and passionate about financial markets. The role will involve closely working with the Chief Investment Officer in both formulating and reviewing asset allocation and investment decisions. You will have input into the investment committees and there will be sector specific responsibilities involving macro research for the sector as well as fund review and selection duties.
You will also be a part of the Model Portfolio team and will have portfolio management responsibilities on a monthly and ad hoc basis. The role will also involve mentoring and training junior analysts on the desk and supporting the investment management infrastructure, providing, and preparing analysis on internal aggregate performance and risk. This is a chance to work with a small team that will be an influential position within the investment team for the right candidate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in wealth management, family office, private bank, or asset management company in an analyst role. Preference will be for those candidates that have had experience conducting both collective investment and macro research. Candidates with less than 5 years’ experience will be considered on the basis that they exhibit outstanding qualities in other requirements.
  • They will be numerically minded exhibiting strong quantitative and analytical skills. You will need a strong knowledge of data analysis tools such as excel (VBA is a plus), Bloomberg, Morningstar and financial express. Asset allocation tools and their application to risk graded portfolios.
  • Good technical knowledge of commonly used products. Knowledge of investment products including, but not restricted to Unit Trusts, Investment Trusts, Hedge funds, structured products, and bonds. You will understand portfolio construction and management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on own initiative and have strong attention to detail along with a curious and innovating mindset. Be commercially minded and have a desire to build a long-term career at CAM.
  • A CFA qualification is desirable or at least working towards this or an equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the FCA rules and regulations and application of those rules to CAM.

Responsibilities:

  • Take a strong role with asset allocation, portfolio construction and fund research. Assist in investment evaluation of new funds/existing funds. Aid in the selection of funds to be included in client portfolios and investment models. You will be a part of the investment and asset allocation committees and will have input on both the tactical and strategic asset allocation framework.
  • Attend and contribute to regular investment and fund management meetings. Sector specialisation will be discussed throughout the interview process. We have a generalist approach; however, consideration will be given to a candidate who has experience as a specialist and is willing to broaden their horizon and contribute to other areas of research.
  • You will have a high input into the CAM MPS. This will involve being part of the investment committee as well as taking portfolio management and maintenance responsibilities. You will have communication lines and correspondence with external IFAs responding to queries, overseeing the preparation of marketing material as well as responding to any ad hoc requests that may be related to the service. There will be on-the-job training, although previous knowledge of platforms is an advantage.
  • Oversight of client performance data, alignment, and risk. Liaise with team members on aggregate performance data, contribute to analysis and provide investment MI when required. Aid in the risk management oversight of the investment process and client portfolios and contribute to the annual strategic asset allocation framework. This involves participation in the investment governance process.
  • Have basic knowledge of ISAs, trusts, offshore bonds, pension structures and the regulatory rules applicable to such investments – there will also be on the job training. Be able to internally advise on the structuring of portfolios to provide income, growth, and balanced mandates within the requisite risk profile.
  • Thought leadership with respect to the evolution of the investment research and governance process. Represent the company at investment forums and other meetings. Read all relevant investment material available. The role will also involve writing investment thought pieces to be published externally through various mediums and contribution to content for marketing material. You will also provide technical support to the sales team and participate in external presentations on an ad hoc basis.
  • The role will also include leadership responsibilities in mentoring and training junior analysts on the team. You will be a part of the team that oversees the Bath University Placement program, involved in the recruitment, training, and nurturing of the interns along with other senior members of the investment team.
