Description:

Senior Investment Consultant / Portfolio Manager
The Senior Investment Consultant/Portfolio Manager works with the Lonsec Tailored Solutions team to provide consulting services primarily to Lonsec’s financial advisory client base, including dealer groups, financial advisors, fund managers, superannuation funds and others considered sophisticated investors. The role is leading the client relationship and building investment solutions that align to client’s needs.
This is a permanent Full-Time position based in our Sydney office (hybrid working model).

This role will involve responsibility including but not limited to:

  • Lead, build and manage the portfolio construction process (including asset allocation, fund research, selection and portfolio construction advice) and other consulting services, such as APL reviews
  • Take responsibility for the quantitative analysis, tools and inputs to Lonsec’s consulting services
  • Review and assessment of portfolio funds and candidates - including formal fund manager review meetings
  • Lead the relationship with the clients that includes the design and production of detailed communication packages for each client.
  • Lead the management of key client relationships.
  • Lead the preparation and participation in client Investment Committees

Prerequisite Skills and Experience:

  • Considerable experience working within an asset consultant, research house or fund manager with an emphasis on portfolio construction and an understanding of tailoring investment solutions to meet specific client needs via manage account solutions.
  • Well-developed Research skills (qualitative) - ability to synthesize and distil financial information down to key concepts and convey this in written form efficiently, clearly and concisely. Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills - meet deadline and coordination and juggle various tasks at a time including the ability to reprioritise as new tasks come to hand.
  • A strong and demonstrable understanding of investment markets and major asset classes within the funds management industry, with a strength in and understanding of asset allocation.
  • Interview/communication skills including the ability to undertake in-depth interviewing in a rigorous and penetrating yet personable and professional manner. Ability to communicate confidently and question articulately and be confident in dealing with senior management within external organisations.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills to enable liaising with external clients with the ability to effectively handle queries and concerns.
  • Ability to work as part of a close knit team as well as autonomously while taking responsibility for meeting personal objectives.
  • Research skills (quantitative) - ability to manipulate and analyse data

Essential qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in a business or mathematical based discipline (science or engineering) e.g. BComm, BBus, BA, BEc, BSc, BApSci
  • Plus one of the following;
  • Honours Year
  • Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA)
  • CFA level 1
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Finance / Management / Commerce / Financial Planning
  • Master of Business Administration / Economics / Commerce / Applied Finance
  • Plus a minimum of 10 years relevant industry work experience either in an investment consulting or managed fund research capacity.
  • The above qualifications are mandatory if the incumbent is to be named as author on published research reports

Appropriate RG146 accreditation is mandatory if the incumbent is required to speak to a retail audience.
