QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or diploma in Information Systems Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent expertise in the following:
  • Server administration
  • Network administration - including network segmentation, VLANs, etc. (we use Fortinet Firewall and are transitioning to Extreme Networks switching and APs across the campus)
  • Proficiency in cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with system upgrades, migrations, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Collaborative and a great communicator, ability to work well in a team.
  • Resilient, proactive, and looking to thrive in an innovative environment.
  • Exceptional quantitative analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and graphical communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency providing end-user support.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration, Windows/PC products, and Apple products.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Senior IT Infrastructure Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the high availability and reliability of our technical infrastructure, which includes overseeing Network, Server, Cloud, and Telephony systems to maintain seamless operations. This role entails managing user accounts across various platforms and upholding stringent security measures against both internal and external threats.
Your expertise will be crucial in providing robust support within our IT department, addressing queries from staff and students, and troubleshooting issues while driving continuous process improvements.
Reporting directly to the Director of Technology for Learning, you will spearhead initiatives to enhance our infrastructure’s health and reliability. You will tackle complex challenges with meticulous documentation and strategic problem-solving to ensure optimal functionality and efficiency.

HIGHLIGHTS OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Network and Systems Administration:

  • Manage installation, configuration, maintenance, and uptime of servers, networks, Mac and Windows desktop environments, iPads, and school-based technology.
  • Implement cloud-ready solutions like Entra, Apple and PC MDMs, and future cloud servers/services.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and minimize downtime.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of IT systems, configurations, network designs, data storage, and disaster recovery.
  • Maintain user accounts across platforms (AD, Entra, PowerSchool).
  • Enforce company guidelines via MDM and firewall rules.
  • Create and schedule automated tasks for operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure project success.

IT Help Desk Management:

  • Respond to IT HelpDesk queries and escalations through various channels (in-person, phone, tickets).
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics for hardware and software issues.
  • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software.
  • Manage network printer staging, setup, and installation.
  • Install computer peripherals and audio/visual equipment.
  • Support projection and interactive displays.
  • Manage IT hardware inventory and asset management.
  • Provide Microsoft 365 support, including Teams, SharePoint, and Azure administration.
  • Assist with laptop and iPad imaging and deployment.
  • Provide audio/visual setup and support for events.
  • Gather feedback from users about device usage.
  • Lead onboarding of new staff members.

Infrastructure Security:

  • Ensure IT infrastructure security through best practices in cybersecurity (EDR, SIEM, Firewall).
  • Manage building management and security systems in collaboration with Facilities.
  • Maintain VEEAM backup infrastructure.
  • Identify vulnerabilities, implement security improvements, and follow cybersecurity benchmarks.
  • Manage Extreme Networks, Fortinet, and Cisco network infrastructure.
  • Monitor network traffic, XDR, and SIEM.
  • Support external audits and security vendor engagements.

Application and Technical Support:

  • Plan and implement system upgrades and migrations.
  • Support Microsoft and Apple device environments.
  • Develop and enhance automation scripts.
  • Support virtualized and cloud technologies (Hyper-V, Azure, Entra).
  • Manage on-prem networking technologies (VLANs, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS).
  • Manage Avaya IP Phone system including paging and voicemail.
  • Create technical documentation and conduct user training.

Collaboration, Leadership, and Capacity Building:

  • Stay updated with industry trends and recommend system improvements.
  • Advise on building systems and cybersecurity to facilities and Director of Technology for Learning.
  • Foster innovation through new practices, technologies, and partnerships.
  • Crosstrain and document critical processes with Senior IT Applications Specialist.
