JOB SUMMARY:

This position has direct responsibility for the HLA Laboratory, including supervisory responsibility for all technical, clerical and support staff in the absence of the Laboratory Director and Charge Technologist/designate
This position will perform histocompatibility, immunogenetics and transplantation testing on human specimens, for purposes of reporting specific results relevant to the treatment and management of patient care.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an approved Medical Technology training program who has attained certification by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or who has attained certification in Medical Laboratory Technology by a certifying body such as College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM).

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have at least 3 years recent laboratory training or experience in human immunogenetics, human histocompatibility and/or human transplantation immunology testing under the supervision of a director and/or technical supervisor of an American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)-accredited or an equivalent ARB approved laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all laboratory procedures such as: HLA typing by molecular techniques (including NGS), flow cytometry assays and Luminex based assays.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database management preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must have good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Training in Histocompatibility techniques preferred.
  • Successful completion of courses in immunology or molecular biology as well as CHA or CHT is considered an asset.
  • Advanced academic achievements (eg, BSc) preferred.
  • Experiences in performing QA functions as well as data analysis preferred
