Senior Legal Counsel
Salary – Circa £110,000
Are you someone who thrives on providing first class legal advice and supporting business in making sound, risk-based decisions? Aviva is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive legal advisor to partner with our business, guiding us with commercially focused legal expertise in data protection and digital strategy. If you are experienced in data protection law and ready to work as part of a collaborative team to apply your judgment and insight to influence key processes at Aviva, this role could be perfect for you.
A bit about the job:
As a core member of the Digital and Data Protection Group Legal team, you will advise Aviva on privacy matters related to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 matters and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, including by reviewing data protection impact assessments, data processing and sharing agreements and international data transfers mechanisms. Your expertise will support Aviva’s digital initiatives, marketing, and technology advancements, including artificial intelligence, by ensuring compliance with regulation, drafting privacy policies, and reviewing documentation like terms of use. This role is vital in guiding Aviva’s approach to privacy and compliance in a dynamic digital environment.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in the UK, with experience in data protection and digital law.
- Strong foundation in UK privacy laws, including the GDPR; experience with Generative AI is a plus.
- Background in top law firms or in-house, ideally within insurance, financial services, technology, or FinTech.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- A genuine passion for data protection and digital innovation.

- Salary – Circa £110,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
- Bonus opportunity - 12% of annual salary, actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s
