JOB DESCRIPTION
Sage are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel specialising in compliance matters. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your career with a FTSE 100 technology leader. In this exciting role, you’ll advise on a wide range of global compliance issues, reporting to the Corporate Legal Director and collaborating closely with the Compliance Team. Your work will be diverse, involving cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders in Legal, Risk, Finance, and Sales worldwide. Key responsibilities include providing expert guidance on sanctions, competition law, anti-bribery, and financial crime. We’re looking for someone with strong compliance experience, excellent influencing skills, and the ability to make risk-based judgments in a commercial setting.
This is a hybrid opportunity which can be based out of either our Newcastle or London office.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a UK-qualified solicitor, with previous experience in a compliance or general corporate/compliance/commercial role. In this role, you’ll provide high-quality advice on compliance matters, from managing day-to-day queries to offering strategic guidance on long-term projects, to assisting with internal investigations. You’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders, influencing in areas of compliance risk and delivering pragmatic legal advice in a commercial context. Responsibilities include maintaining legal compliance policies, collaborating with the Risk & Controls team to design and implement controls and procedures to embed legal compliance policies within the business, and supporting Regional Legal Directors with legal compliance needs globally. You’ll also deliver pragmatic and easy to understand training to business colleagues, manage key compliance projects, and plan for regulatory changes. The ideal candidate is a team player with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and experience working in a multinational context. Experience of advising on competition law and compliance other relevant legal disciplines (e.g., SaaS, Cloud, commercial contracts, competition law, data privacy) and in commerce (particularly for a global publicly listed company and/or within the Technology sector) is preferred. You’ll also be proactive in improving processes, managing costs, and promoting inclusivity, accountability and high performance within the Legal function.

Ideally you will have experience in competition law, managing compliance projects, and working on sustainability and human rights law within a global context.
