The Team
We are seeking a senior-level English qualified lawyer to join our European ecommerce legal team and support our rapidly growing ecommerce business. The European ecommerce legal team supports diverse, cross functional, and multi-jurisdictional initiatives across the TikTok ecommerce business in the UK and Europe. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career within a supportive and dynamic legal team, in a division that is enjoying hyper growth on a truly international scale.
The Role
You will be a talented lawyer who will thrive in an environment that asks you to deliver to a high standard at pace, use sound judgement to effectively navigate ambiguity, juggle competing priorities and work to short turnaround times. You will bring your bias for action, strong ownership, energy and enthusiasm to respond quickly to a business that is scaling fast.
You will have experience advising consumer facing digital platforms in the UK and Europe, ideally with a focus on ecommerce, retail, and online marketplaces. You will understand how the law is developing to regulate such platforms, and have the versatility to advise across a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and product workstreams, involving customers, creators, merchants, and partners.
This role will be based in London.
Responsibilities

You will join a team that is dedicated to delivering excellent stakeholder service to achieve pragmatic solutions for the business. In doing so you will:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of operational, regulatory, commercial and product counselling ecommerce matters, with a focus on consumer protection, B2B and B2C engagement, product compliance, advertising, influencer marketing, and intellectual property.
  • Support the business in understanding and complying with legal and regulatory requirements when launching and operating new products, features and initiatives in the UK and EU.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of TikTok ecommerce initiatives through review of consumer and business facing disclosures, policies, and terms and conditions, and support for feature development.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements relevant to digital and ecommerce platforms.
  • You will contribute to template development, process improvement and internal training, identifying and resolving opportunities to simplify workflows and reduce contractual friction.
  • Partner closely with local and international stakeholders across the ecommerce business and in cross-functional teams such as privacy and public policy, to deliver projects against short timeframes, setting appropriate priorities and managing legal risk.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong academic background, with legal qualifications in the UK and/or Europe.
  • Senior lawyer, with experience of advising across platform liability, intellectual property, consumer protection and other regulatory matters, with an ecommerce focus.
  • Knowledge of UK and EU laws as they apply to the retail sector, and ecommerce platforms.
  • Solid experience in drafting and negotiation of agreements across the retail, creative, and advertising industries.
  • Strong documentation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on many different projects at once in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in English - European language skills a bonus

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ideally some in-house experience in an international matrixed organisation.
  • eCommerce experience focused on platform liability, intellectual property, consumer protection and other regulatory requirements.
TikTok is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives. Our platform connects people from across the globe and so does our workplace. At TikTok, our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. To achieve that goal, we are committed to celebrating our diverse voices and to creating an environment that reflects the many communities we reach. We are passionate about this and hope you are too
