THE OPPORTUNITY
Ernst & Young LLP is looking for an experienced candidate to join our collegial team of lawyers in the General Counsel’s Office as Senior Legal Counsel. Our General Counsel’s Office is a respected, award-winning, innovative and integrated part of our professional services firm.
This Senior Legal Counsel position reports to the Associate General Counsel and will primarily be responsible for providing legal and policy advice, guidance, and support on a wide range of matters relating to our regulated businesses. There is a significant research component to the role, including monitoring changes to professional rules, regulations and laws affecting our firm with a view to advising internal stakeholders on regulatory and compliance matters affecting our various operations.

Responsibilities:
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and advise on professional regulatory requirements and amendments including those related to the various provincial Institutes of Chartered Professional Accountants and the various Canadian law societies.
- Monitor and provide advice on all laws and regulations affecting Ernst & Young LLP and its affiliated entities (for e.g., exempt market dealer registration, lobbying laws, anti money-laundering legislation, sanctions, and insurance requirements)
- Conduct research and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on issues affecting or raised by the business
- Assist with the drafting and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures
- Actively participate in projects that have a regulatory impact
- Contribute to internal process improvement and the development and delivery of training
TO QUALIFY FOR THE ROLE YOU MUST HAVE:
- Licensed to practice law in any Canadian Province
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a sophisticated organization
- Ability to commute to one of our Canadian offices
