Description:

JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join our organization and to lead and perform the multitude of systems administration tasks for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering and systems administration and will employ core industry systems administration tools to ensure high productivity for the teams supported. You will collaborate closely with our client technology and business teams through daily, collaborative and fast-paced interaction. Responsibilities:

  • Design, install, configure and support internal and customer facing servers, network devices and firewalls.
  • Proactively manage and maintain server, network and firewall systems
  • Administer and support core Debian Linux, CentOS, Rocky Linux, KVM/QEMU, VyOS and pfSense technologies via the Linux command-line (bash/sh)
  • Strong understanding of systems administration via the Linux command-line (bash/sh)
  • Strong understanding of Linux shell scripting
  • Administer Windows Server, Hyper-V and MS SQL Server systems where applicable
  • Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans
  • Implement monitoring, configuration management and reporting functions
  • Define and document support procedures
  • Provide after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well as occasional weekend maintenance
  • Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation
  • Assist with hardware, firewall and software vendor evaluations and recommendations
  • Mentor / cross train team members and/or clients on existing and new technologies
  • Carry out special tasks at Management’s direction
  • Interact with customers and staff at a senior technical level, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned. Optimize clients’ computing architecture for maximum security, performance, and availability.
  • Develop and maintain installation, configuration and troubleshooting documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related area) preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Debian Linux / CentOS / Rocky Linux and command-line administration
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux firewall management and pfSense firewall management
  • Managing in excess of 100 Linux Servers
  • Managing deployments/rollouts
  • Managing large scale Linux server / KVM/QEMU installations
  • Managing large scale Windows Server installations is an asset
  • Managing server virtualization technologies like KVM/QEMU, Hyper-V or VMWare
  • A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking
  • Strong knowledge of core firewall platforms such as pfSense, SonicWall, and others
  • MS SQL Server configuration is an asset
  • Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration
  • Ability to troubleshoot network-related issues
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Must be organized and have the ability to manage projects of varying length
  • Positive, self-motivated individual who can complete tasks independently
  • High sense of collaboration and teamwork

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role in IT.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with cloud services.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies
  • Solid understanding of computer networking concepts and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members across departments.
