POSITION DESCRIPTION

Responsible for all routine, preventive and emergency maintenance repairs at our Ottawa Street location and all other properties operated by YWCA Hamilton. Also responsible for the ongoing inspection of life safety systems. This position also participates in a 24/7 on call rotation.

  • Build the existing preventative maintenance program. Assist in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Equipment Asset inventory program and Master Building Key/Security Inventory;
  • Inspects all YWCA Hamilton properties and must be able to plan and execute routine maintenance activities as well as respond to troubleshooting requests and unexpected equipment issues;
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance such as floor, drywall and furniture repair and clean up, painting, light trade work (plumbing, electrical, HVAC etc.), as well as specific maintenance needs within tenant residential apartment units;
  • Maintain inventory tracking of relevant supplies to support the maintenance of the building equipment and property maintenance;
  • Work independently and safely to diagnose mechanical problems and provide quick and innovative solutions;
  • Inspect and monitor building security, Building Automation System (BAS), building safety and fire protection systems/equipment, Generator and HVAC systems;
  • Strictly adhere to Fire Life and Regulatory Compliance standards;
  • Respond to emergencies and liabilities within the facilities, ensuring the safety of all members, employees and customers;
  • Liaise with external contractors and provide access to service areas as needed;
  • Snow removal and basic landscape support as needed;
  • Assists with set up/take down of program spaces, special events, and other equipment as required;
  • Complete required compliance documentation, log books, regulatory inspections and Passive House certification building reports etc.;
  • Ensure issues, follow up actions and/or resolutions are clearly communicated to Manager of Building Operations or designate;
  • Follows all policies and procedures that ensure the safe, practical and efficient operation of the facilities;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of high school and possess a diploma or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a building environment with various trades such as (electrical, plumbing, building systems, fire life safety, and general contract work) working with residential and commercial HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems are preferred;
  • Related building or mechanical trade certificate required, or equivalent education and experience;
  • Must be able to provide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, an insured vehicle, and the ability to travel between properties during regular business hours;
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated strong time management skills with the ability to plan and execute routine maintenance activities as well as responding to troubleshooting requests and unexpected equipment issues;
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills;
  • Must be able to participate in a rotational after hour’s on-call schedule for emergencies;
  • Ability to work days, afternoons, evenings and weekends as required for special projects;
  • Ability to work from a feminist, anti-oppressive/anti-racist perspective;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
