JOB SUMMARY:

The Sr. Manager, Community Engagement Business Partner position is primarily responsible for supporting the strategic development and execution of Vail Resorts’ external outreach strategy in the West and East regions as part of a reimagined Public Affairs operating model. As part of the Vail Resorts Public Affairs Department, this role will report to the VP of Community and External Affairs with a focus on external affairs at the community level. The business partner will work directly with ski area leadership to both facilitate and conduct direct outreach. Outreach is intended to forge relationships with key government and community stakeholders as well as pursue and achieve business, operations, and stakeholder priorities in the communities where we operate.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic individual with demonstrated strategic experience planning and leading external affairs programs and projects across a variety of stakeholders including the ability to persuade and influence others aligned with our Company values, business priorities, and specific objectives.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 4-8 years of working experience, ideally with a background in government affairs, regulatory/government entities, intergovernmental associations, or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), or coming from the business side with a background in Marketing, Communications, Strategy, Operations, or a customer-facing role
  • Demonstrated experience in project managing with (and leading) cross-functional teams collaboratively
  • Organized and self-motivated; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet the demands of a fast-paced and shifting environment
  • Strategic thinking with strong written and verbal communications, (writing samples may be requested).
  • Ability to engage credibly with senior executives to inspire confidence as well as persuade and influence. Highly proactive, entrepreneurial and able to navigate ambiguity and complexity while developing successful solutions and communicating to maintain alignment.
  • Passion for doing good, leading teams, serving others, and driving value in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and fun. Previous public policy experience not necessarily required; however, a strategic eye and strong interest in policy issues and content will be beneficial.
  • High-level creative thinker with the confidence to use it; proactively seeks out newer, better ways to get things done, using existing resources and creating efficiencies
    The expected Total Compensation for this role is $89,100 - $105,000 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Responsibilities:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Represent Vail Resorts Externally

  • Develop and manage relationships for the company with an initial focus on local communities in alignment with our Community & External Affairs strategy.
  • Build a senior network of contacts across government and non-governmental stakeholders
  • Maintain situational awareness on key stakeholder and policy developments and help to make strategic recommendations on issues that may impact the Company.
  • Lead public affairs strategies for pursuing and achieving business priorities within resort communities, including advocacy for and management of special projects and other issue management.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally inside Vail Resorts

  • Partner closely across the Public Affairs Department that includes the Public Relations and Communications team, the Environmental & Social Responsibility team, and the Government Affairs team focused on state and national affairs.
  • Partner directly with ski area leadership to support and facilitate their external engagement and business priorities
  • Management of Community Analyst role supporting your work
  • Act as a conduit between Public Affairs and Vail Resorts business units, appropriately communicating opportunities and emerging issues to drive collaborative decision making and solutions.
  • Maintain operating budget for the Community & External Affairs team
