This role is part of the EMEA WPB Compliance advisory function, with a ringfenced accountability for the proactive stewardship of Regulatory Compliance risks, discharging the non financial risk management responsibilities and standard operating procedures for compliance stewards. Regulatory Compliance Risks spans a wide range of Risk Taxonomies associated with Duties to Regulators, Customers and the Markets we operate in.
The incumbent will be expected to have a solid understanding of Regulatory Compliance risks and their applicability to the WPB business holistically and sub-business lines across Retail and Wealth in particular.
In this role you will be required to provide effective stakeholder management balancing advisory and risk stewardship working independently with business, functional risk partners, and 2nd line and 3rd line teams. Day to day responsibilities will include the provision of sound and timely advice regarding the interpretation, implementation, risk & control assessments and governance of Global RC policies, regulatory obligations and risks in coordination with compliance subject matter experts where applicable. The Role holder is required to understand and operate within the UAE, Regional and DFSA lead regulatory requirements and extra-territorial obligations as applicable as well as remain up to speed with the rapidly evolving industrial and regulatory landscape impacting the function and the WPB business alike ( e.g Digital, Climate Change, Geopolitical Developments etc..) The job holder may be required to specialise in specific advisory areas or policies and tasked with targeted responsibilities which can rotate frequently across the UAE or Regional WPB Compliance advisory function working with a large span of markets, sub WPB business lines and compliance risk taxonomies

Key activities in this role:

  • Review any new/amended material laws, rules and regulations issued by lead regulator for MENAT working with countries to assess their applicability to the business ensuring all appropriate processes and procedures are amended to comply. Collaborate with WPB Risk Owners to monitor regulatory change programs requiring funding and prioritization.
  • Advice and Challenge WPB NFR leads and country regulatory compliance stewards on the application and implementation of RC policies and procedures applicable to WPB.
  • Maintain a holistic view of the Regulatory Compliance Risk profile of WPB regionally with oversight and analysis of issue management, trigger events, open challenges, and top & emerging risks.
  • Represent Regulatory Compliance in key decision-making governance forums for the Function and WPB business overseeing strategic change, product due diligence and business management of compliance risks.
  • Produce quality and timely governance reporting and key management information submissions to senior management.
  • Ensure Non-Financial Risk (NFR) stewardship responsibilities are consistently understood and discharged by regulatory compliance stewards supporting WPB with the responsibility to upskill and embed NFR capabilities across the markets.
  • Act as first point of regional consultation, and oversight of RC advice, challenge, and timely issues management.
  • Foster a collaborative and healthy working environment with Regulatory Compliance stewards in Group, region and countries.
  • Demonstrate value add in upskilling and training regulatory compliance teams on policy and risk management requirements.
  • Perform Quality Assurance and oversight on Risk & Control assessments, Continuous Monitoring Plans and records of issues and challenges.
  • Embed HSBC’s Global Conduct Purpose Led approach across RC
  • Role requires the ability to make risk based independent recommendations and decisions thinking broadly of all forms of compliance risks

Requirements

Responsibilities:

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE, YOU SHOULD MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate Degree is a must to obtain UAE visa.
  • 5-8 years’ experience in Regulatory Compliance functions with exposure to Business Conduct, Governance, risk and control management
  • Strong understanding of Retail and Wealth business lines
  • Customer Centric with advocacy towards delivering an outstanding client experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills to efficiently operates across multiple jurisdictions under different models and ways of working
  • Curious, with willingness to continuous learning and an eye for detail to map regulatory and policy expectations effectively
  • Resilient, adaptable and able to embrace and foster the rapid pace of internal and external changes impacting the business and function.
  • Proven track record of managing complex Risk Management and mitigation programs across a matrix organisation.
  • Analytical capabilities, together with the ability to support risk-based decisions with sound reasoning.
  • Confident in handling conflicting situations and able to work independently.
  • The job holder must have commercial acumen and a broad understanding of regulatory priorities, industry trends, as well as the competitive landscape
  • Knowledge of Legal Entity structures, lead regulatory requirements and the notion of Extra-territorial outreach understanding with recognition of Global and local regulatory requirements, reputational and conduct risks
  • Excellent command of written and oral English language, with Arabic being a plus.
