Description:

OVERVIEW

The purpose of the Senior Manager Financial Crimes role is to protect MUFG, our customers and the broader Australian community from financial Crime. The risk types managed by the function will include Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF), Sanctions, Scam and Fraud.

EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Significant experience within Senior Risk, Compliance and or Financial Crimes roles in a complex, global financial services organisation.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of Australian Financial Crimes best practice, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and leading effective teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in managing direct regulator and law enforcement engagements across requests for information, orders to produce, warrants, audits and industry risk assessments
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CAMS, ACFE, ICI) and a degree in a related field are preferred.
  • Previous experience of financial crimes

Responsibilities:

Strategic Focus

  • Develop and execute the Financial Crimes mitigation strategy in alignment with MUFG Pension & Market Services strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with various stakeholders i.e. Global Head of AML & Sanctions, Executive Director Governance, Regulatory & Government Relations Business Unit MDs, Chief Product Officer
  • Manage and develop key internal stakeholder relationships with relevant Senior Leaders
  • Provide SME input to Australian business units in respect to Risk Assessments of operational controls and processes.

Operational Management

  • Responsible for building and maintaining a high performing Financial Crimes team to ensure service levels are met and to prioritise and adapt work to align with organisational goals.
  • Implement and imbed any Service Excellence initiatives to improve quality, performance, and efficiency of the financial crimes department.
  • Ensure all people management responsibilities for the teams are completed effectively and on time. Develop team members to meet their potential, career goals and the organisation’s goals.
  • Ensure the development of a risk and fraud management culture and effectively limit risk exposure to MUFG Pension & Market Services with strategies to mitigate risk and fraud.
  • Create and drive an organisational culture where employees are engaged and motivated through demonstrated leadership effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with agreed processes / procedures, controls and address quality and assurance outcomes as required.
  • Ensure all client contractual SLA’s are both monitored and met.
  • Work in partnership with the broader leadership team and clients to drive strategic direction and provide effective leadership.
  • Deliver and champion continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that best practice is incorporated into the business.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure alignment with and delivery of customer centric solutions against the overall strategy.
  • Liaise with multiple internal departments to ensure processes are executed in the best interest of the member, whilst protecting member accounts from fraudulent behaviour.
  • Provide SME support to the business across all potential instances of Fraud & AML/CTF.
  • Coordinate with internal & external audit to ensure compliance and address any findings or issues.
  • Ensure the advice and guidance to the business, relevant stakeholders and clients (where required) is clear, concise and reliable.

People Leadership

  • Foster collaboration across departments to ensure a unified approach to AML compliance.
  • Develop capability and retain key people, proactively identifying key people risks through the development of robust succession planning
  • Actively grow, embed, and sustain a high performing culture and capability across the business and role model the MUFG Pension & Market Services values
  • Develop a training and enrichment program for the department to build internal knowledge bases and skill sets.

Governance & Risk

  • Maintain all monthly, quarterly and annual control assessments across Financial Crimes services and processes
  • Coordinate and manage the GS007 audit on all Financial Crimes services inclusive of the supply of sample testing
  • Maintain and complete all relevant Quarterly Compliance client reporting in conjunction with Risk & Compliance.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate existing and emerging operational risks, ensuring operational business controls are effective and that policies / procedures are clearly defined and adhered to.
  • Manage the Financial Crimes Risk Registers.
  • Represent MUFG Pension & Market Services in discussions with regulators, auditors, and industry groups to advocate for best practices and address regulatory concerns.
