Description:
Fortum Innovation & Venturing (I&V) focuses on the future business opportunities which are beyond Business units’ current activities (i.e., primarily so-called Horizon 3) and included in Fortum’s purpose. I&V’s role is primarily to gain strategic insights and to develop future business opportunities for the benefit of Fortum Group, as well as secondarily investment returns.
The Strategic Insights and Innovation Domains is a newly established leadership area within I&V, responsible for developing future growth opportunities and investment theses. The team plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of I&V by providing insights and foresight on future growth drivers, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and maximizing investment opportunities for Fortum.

You have a solid understanding of the operating environment and business dynamics in the energy sector, and you excel at translating market insights into concrete deliverables and strategic recommendations through close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

ABOUT THE ROLE
In this role, you will be pivotal in driving all activities leading to the development of clear, quantifiable and actionable future growth opportunities and investment theses within chosen focus domains. You will be responsible for consolidating and synthesizing strategic insights related to the future growth opportunities and translating these insights into actionable recommendations for use in strategic planning and decision-making.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development of a portfolio of future growth opportunities within chosen focus domains, including e.g. market landscape analysis, customer segmentation and strategic fit
- Formulate and oversee the creation of investment theses addressing future growth opportunities, including e.g. investment criteria, risk assessments and performance metrics
- Consolidate and synthesize strategic insights on emerging trends, disruptive business models and future technologies to create high-impact future outlook deliverables
- Provide high-level strategic recommendations for business planning and decision-making based on future growth opportunities
- Establish and foster strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for the focus domains
- Lead cross-functional teams to gather insights, share knowledge, and make the future growth opportunities and investment thesis actionable
- Engage with industry partners, customers, subject matter experts, and other external stakeholders to identify opportunities for co-creation and collaboration
- Continuously refine and enhance processes for collecting, analysing and communicating data and information from internal and external sources
- Oversee the management and maintenance of necessary information management systems
- In this role you will be reporting to the Director, Strategic Insights and Innovation Domains. You can be working from any of our offices in Espoo, Stockholm or Oslo
TO SUCCEED AND THRIVE IN THIS ROLE, YOU SHOULD HAVE:
- Extensive experience in corporate innovation, management consulting, investment analysis or a similar field, with meaningful portion of that time in leadership roles
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading cross-functional teams to achieve strategic goals and managing complex projects from inception to completion
- Strong business acumen with excellent knowledge of new business models, emerging technologies and key industry trends
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, both within and outside the organization
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that enable you to effectively engage with industry partners, customers, subject matter experts, and other external stakeholders
- Expertise in effectively communicating and driving forward strategic initiatives within complex organizational structures
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field with a proven track record in international business environment
- Exceptional presentation skills, both oral and in written, in English, with the ability to create high-quality presentation materials
- An analytical mindset capable of absorbing large amounts of complex information and drawing clear, business-relevant conclusions
