POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Manager, Laboratory drives the ongoing growth and development of the clinical laboratory, manages laboratory operations and the laboratory leadership teams. The Senior Manager also develops and maintains procedures to ensure the quality and accuracy of patient results and the safety of the laboratory staff under the direction of the Director of Clinical Laboratory and the Medical Director. This position oversees the supervision and development of laboratory leaders, provides technical expertise to the laboratory, works cross-functionally for space planning, process development, staffing and training needs, and serves as the liaison to internal and external entities. In addition, the Senior Manager, Laboratory oversees the Quality Management and safety programs within the clinical laboratory and ensures the laboratory staff are in compliance with all laws and regulations required by CLIA, CAP, OSHA, New York, and any other applicable state or federal legislative organizations. This position is essential in growing and developing the managers, supervisors, and front-line leaders within the clinical laboratory team. They are also available to assist other managers as needed to ensure alignment and standardization between teams as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science or related field.
  • 9+ years of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting to include experience working with Quality Management Programs including strong knowledge of all laws and regulations that are required by CLIA, CAP, OSHA and other related legislative and/or state health departments and organizations.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing teams.
  • Experience and knowledge in the areas of laboratory technology and LIS management.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, or Master of Science or Doctorate/PhD.
  • Possession of ASCP certification and ability to maintain throughout employment in position.

Salary Range:
$114,000.00 - $182,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs workflow of respective Laboratory department in conjunction with overall throughput and turnaround time benchmarks in mind.
  • Leads and coaches front line leaders to enhance their knowledge of the laboratory, throughput and constraint identification, and people leadership skills.
  • Assumes responsibility for growth and development of a team of leaders including mentoring, coaching, performance management, and communication skills.
  • Aligns staffing to forecasted sample volume.
  • Participates in cross-functional activities with stakeholders on laboratory needs, to include technology, equipment, materials, training, etc., and process improvements.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements to ensure the laboratory complies with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertinent to the management of the laboratory, including applicable CLIA, CAP and other requirements and regulations such as California and New York (CLEP) laboratory programs.
  • Supports Laboratory team in identifying and documenting system or process issues and works cross functionally to achieve problem resolution and future improvements.
  • Maintains morale and supports employee engagement initiatives.
  • Identifies and shares best practices and strives for continuous improvement of the laboratory.
  • Works strategically with department leadership to ensure testing is completed within turnaround time expectations.
  • Partners with senior leadership in establishing strategic priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Laboratory Director to assist in developing and providing continuing education credits for the laboratory staff and is an active participant in professional development.
  • Effectively manages, aligns, motivates and inspires department staff to do their best work through coaching, mentoring, and successful performance management.
  • Partners with Laboratory Director to maintain operations within the budget.
  • Verifies the accuracy of processes performed in the lab, and in collaboration with senior leadership and quality control, establishes the laboratory’s test and process performance KPIs.
  • Ensures the quality management program is maintained by following parameters for acceptable performance for the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing processes.
  • Ensures SOP is followed for all process deviation occurrences to ensure compliance with lab quality management program and CAP/CLIA standards.
  • Ensures integrity of all patient result reporting, including those requiring intervention or corrective action to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assure competency of all laboratory personnel.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
