DESCRIPTION

The GS1 Canada Public Affairs team is looking for a driven, self-starter to be our Senior Manager, Regulatory & Public Affairs to support our strategic regulatory and public affairs initiatives. This role is pivotal in aligning GS1 standards with regulatory frameworks and industry needs, and driving sustainability, visibility, and compliance in supply chains across sectors.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • 10-12 years of experience in regulatory affairs, public policy, or related fields, with expertise in regulatory analysis and compliance reporting ;
  • Undergraduate degree in regulatory affairs, political science, public policy or equal (advanced education is an asset.) ;
  • Expertise in understanding government policies and regulations and communicating potential impacts and opportunities to business sectors and partnerships ;
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks and policies at federal, provincial, and municipal levels ;
  • Proven experience in writing for diverse audiences, including government, industry stakeholders, and internal teams ;
  • Excellent research, communication, and project management skills ;
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships ;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive scans of government, regulatory, and media landscapes to stay informed about industry trends, issues, and opportunities in all areas that GS1 Canada supports ;
  • Research and synthesize information from diverse sources (e.g., government departments, regulations, reports, committees) to create high-quality materials like summaries, presentations, and reports and be able to present findings to both internal and external audiences ;
  • Establish a formalized processes to educate internal teams on current and emerging regulations, ensuring alignment with GS1 Canada standards and solutions ;
  • Develop and maintain communication materials to support strategies, policy initiatives, and external engagement ;
  • Analyze data to generate insights data to develop key insights and plan future communications ;
  • Build a network of regulatory peers and maintain consistency in communication materials for government engagement ;
  • Manage tools and repositories to ensure organized, accessible resources for external relations and public policy activities ;
  • Monitor, research, and document regulatory changes and how they impact GS1 Canada and its subscribers, ensuring timely responses, recommendations, and adaptations ;
  • Partner with internal teams and consultants to address key issues affecting subscribers and industry stakeholders ;
  • Support public affairs initiatives with research, strategies, and materials to influence policy and promote global adoption of GS1 standards ;
  • Be GS1 Canada’s “go-to” for regulatory matters.
