POSITION SUMMARY
This role will join the EMEA Legal and Compliance Team working closely with the logistics and customs teams, supporting legal and trade compliance functions globally. The position is responsible for compliance activities such as ensuring customs & trade regulation compliance, reporting compliance trends, analyzing, maintaining and improving import, transit and export procedures, policies, and compliance programs.
The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about e-commerce and innovation, enjoy a fast-paced environment and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains and evaluates the region’s compliance status with various regulatory bodies including customs, export control and applicable tax & customs authorities.
- Reviews internal controls, develops processes, administers the compliance audit program, and oversees corrective action plans for the region.
- Monitoring of EU and national legislations within the EMEA region on Customs and import / trade law regarding business processes and flows of goods.
- Fulfilment of company and customs requirements in terms of simplified customs clearance of goods, reporting, reconciliation of specific procedures
- Support the development of an import compliance training program for employees and provide training as needed.
- Review and support classification of products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
- Prepare reports and presentations on customs & trade compliance activities and status for senior management.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required to ensure trade compliance in the EMEA region, aligning with the Director of Trade Compliance EMEA and other members of the Legal team.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Customs/International Trade
- Experience in HS (tariff) classification, customs valuation and country of origin determination. Very good knowledge of import/export & customs regulations, Free Trade Agreements, Rules of Origin, Import Duties, International Regulations and AEO.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills (the ability to present trade compliance concepts in a technical environment and to persons at all levels, including top management)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Critical thinking and excellent problem solving and analysis skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize, with excellent time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information frequently and appropriately
- Capable of working independently in support of trade compliance objectives and working collaboratively with different teams and a variety of business functions
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Professional English level (written and spoken); any additional language in EEMEA or Mandarin is a plus
- Experiences in international companies with operations in different continents and adaptable to working with teams from different time zones and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to influence and drive projects to completion under tight deadlines
- Self-starter, entrepreneurial, roll up your sleeves” attitude
- High degree of independence, initiative, and good judgement. Commercial and pragmatic in your approach to compliance advice whilst maintaining a strong sense of professional accountability
