About the Portfolio
The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences.
The Portfolio incorporates the following business units: Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, People, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Finance, Governance and Legal, Data and Analytics, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement, and Vietnam Operations.
The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

Procurement is a small but focused group reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The role of Procurement is to review sourcing and procurement options across the university based on an expenditure on goods and services of ~$380M. Key issues addressed are:

  • Identifying cost improvement initiatives across the university spend
  • Rationalising supplier base
  • Negotiating and establishing major RMIT group contracts based on combined purchasing power
  • Enabling the procurement process and policies through both systems and controls
  • Using and leveraging group contracts to provide savings
  • Development of category management plans and deep vendor relationship management

About You
The Senior Manager, Vendor Management, is responsible for the strategic development of RMIT vendors associated with the delivery of the RMIT Strategy. The role will oversee strategic & commercial direction and oversight of RMIT vendors identified as important to RMIT’s strategic objectives, ensuring high service levels, optimising spend and managing risk. The Senior Manager, Vendor Management will be responsible for ensuring that the RMIT Vendor Management team nurtures and manages all major vendor relationships to extract value added benefits aligned to RMIT needs.

The main activities include:

  • determining portfolio/college requirements,
  • assessing supply markets,
  • developing strategic vendor management plans,
  • contributing to category plans, and
  • managing vendor contracts, performance, and risk.

The Senior Manager, Vendor Management will engage with RMIT senior stakeholders and the vendor community to understand long-term business aspirations that can be enabled by third party relationships. The role will also oversee the consistent application and continuous improvement of the RMIT Vendor Management Framework, and work to deliver process innovation that targets demand management as well as drive simple and effective use of processes and systems.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:

  • Leadership experience in managing complex vendors utilising standardised policy and procedure whilst still delivering commercial outcomes.
  • Strong leadership skills in a cross-functional team environment in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrate expertise for IT contract and vendor management.
  • Proven ability in vendor and category development using analytics and leading practice tools.
  • Track record of developing and delivering substantial and sustainable commercial benefits.
  • Strong commercial awareness skills and an ability to apply this to the Education sector, acknowledging differences and similarities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead suppliers at senior management level to deliver high-performing supply chains.
