Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, compliance, regulatory, market and reputational risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join the Wholesale Credit team in the role of Senior Manager reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Approvals for HSBC Australia. The role will be primarily responsible for ensuring sound asset quality and a conservative credit culture throughout the lending activities of the HSBC Group in Australia while ensuring that the credit approval process is responsive to customer needs and minimising credit losses.
This role has no direct or indirect reports.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assess and decision corporate credit proposals for annual review, new money, amendment etc. within Credit Approval Authority (‘CAA’).
  • Shape credit appetite by providing expert credit guidance at a transactional and portfolio level. Foster sound asset quality and a conservative credit culture throughout the lending activities of the HSBC in Australia (the ‘Bank’).
  • Escalate credit concerns in a prompt and appropriate manner. Contribute to Worry, Watch, Monitor forums, sector reviews and other credit risk governance forums.
  • Support growth and other strategic priorities of the Bank. Promote an efficient and commercial credit approval process that is responsive to customer needs.
  • Ensure adherence to credit risk management framework, policies and procedures as well as regulator rules and guidelines.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in sector, product or other SME area relevant to AUH WCR coverage.
  • Assist in building team engagement and effectiveness – with the provision of effective coaching, mentoring and assistance as required.

Requirements

To be successful in the role you will need:

  • Degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration.
  • Significant proven experience in corporate credit analysis and related risk management across a broad range of industries.
  • In-depth analytical skills, with a strong commercial orientation and focus on credit quality.
  • Strong analytical, planning, self-awareness, problem-solving, financial and technical skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously and in a team.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively with Asia Pacific Risk and the business.
  • Key involvement in setting of and ensuring alignment with industry risk appetite.
  • Ability to drive cultural risk change, improving the end to end credit process on a continuous basis.
  • Self-confidence and assertiveness in dealing with senior management in both Risk and Business.
  • An ability to work under strict time pressures.
