Position Summary
The Sr Marketing & Business Development Director works closely with the chief strategy officer and senior leadership to align the company’s marketing and sales strategies with the overall strategic plan. They manage the corporate-wide marketing and business development teams that support Henderson Companies, including the overall brand, project procurement, client growth, lead generation, internal communications, external communications, executive communications and the marketing/business development budget. The Sr Marketing & Business Development Director works cooperatively with leadership teams to define and mobilize company-wide strategies that support the company’s business objectives and revenue goals by growing brand awareness among key audiences, fostering employee recruitment and engagement, converting potential leads into clients, and creating long-term client retention plans.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

Marketing & Brand Awareness Strategy

  • Develops and executes the firm’s annual marketing plan and budget to support corporate goals of employee recruitment and retention, brand awareness in the industry, client experience excellence and ongoing revenue and profit growth.
  • Conducts annual communications audit and updates strategy as necessary.
  • Analyzes and evaluates effectiveness of communications using data analytics.
  • Develops processes and procedures for regular communication needs, effectively managing the team’s workflow.
  • Oversees all aspects of corporate brand, including development and compliance of brand standards and brand voice.
  • Develops and manages the corporate crisis communication plan and trains employees on usage and implementation.
  • Keeps current on trends and leverages them to create marketing strategies.
  • Leads the team in evaluating innovative technologies, processes and tactics to keep Henderson up-to-date and leading the industry in marketing strategies.
  • Oversees partnerships with outside marketing agencies and/or consultants.
  • Sets strategies and leads the communications and graphics teams on the development of company-wide communications including all-company quarterly meetings, executive communication, intranet content and employee announcements.
  • Develops messages and communication strategies for executive leadership.
  • Develops external communications strategies and leads the team in the execution of content development, marketing collateral, PR and media relations, photography procurement, digital marketing, website traffic, video production and more.
  • Works with leadership of each business unit to create and execute marketing plans that help reach their business goals.

Business Development Strategy

  • Develops and executes the firm’s annual business development plan and budget to support corporate goals of client retention, client experience excellence and revenue and profit growth.
  • Oversees the data management process to ensure optimization of project, client and employee data.
  • Works with leadership of each business unit to create and execute business development plans that help meet each unit’s business goals.
  • Keeps current on industry trends and leverages them to create business development strategies.
  • Develops sales goals for each business unit.
  • Collaborates with business units to create comprehensive sales documents for specific markets and individual offerings.
  • Manages the firm’s strategy for lead generation and project procurement. Ensures all opportunities are properly pursued.
  • Oversees the progress of activities related to RFP/RFQ responses, including engagement with cross-functional partners.
  • Develops effective win strategies for high-profile pursuits.
  • Oversees the interview preparation process, sets win themes and strategies and leads mock interviews with the project team.
  • Attracts and retains new and existing clients to generate business for the firm.
  • Coaches technical staff on business development opportunities.
  • Sets strategies for project capture plans to win business with existing clients.
  • Assists in conducting client touchpoint meetings and continually improving client satisfaction ratings.
  • Leads the firm’s tradeshow process by determining strategies for attendance and participation. Attends conferences and tradeshows as needed.

Corporate Leadership, Education & Training

  • Serves as a change agent leader in the firm, providing oversight into change management initiatives and ensuring employee engagement and buy-in along the way.
  • Works with leadership of each business unit in conjunction with chief strategy and growth officers in creating annual business plans aligned with the strategic direction of the firm.
  • Trains and mentors’ technical staff and executives in preparation for company meetings, client meetings, media interviews and press tours.
  • Provides ongoing communications training to all levels of employees.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manages a team of 25+ marketing and business development professionals in multiple office and remote locations across the country.
  • Provides training, mentoring, professional development and career pathing opportunities for the marketing and business development team.
  • Responsible for staffing, recruiting and engagement of the marketing and business development teams.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or journalism required. Master’s degree in marketing, business, or communications preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive marketing and business development experience required.

  • Experience within a related industry such as construction, architecture, engineering, or other professional service and multi-location environment preferred.
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams required.
