We are currently seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join our Materials and Construction Services team in Edmonton, AB.

Qualifications that Would Make You A Great Candidate:

  • Minimum of an Undergraduate degree in Materials or Civil Engineering.
  • Preference will be given to candidate that have obtained a Graduate Degree or Ph.D. in the area of Materials Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a materials engineering capacity in Western Canada.
  • Extensive experience in Concrete and Construction Aggregates.
  • Extensive experience in Concrete Mix Design/Review, including Mitigation of Alkali Reactivity (CSA A23.2-27A).
  • Experience in Concrete Condition Assessments and Concrete Repairs.
  • Experience in the design, preconstruction and post construction evaluation of PCC, including High Performance Concrete (HPC) and Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC).
  • Experience with Asphalt Paving and Mix design would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Extensive experience establishing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Experience writing internal and external reports and proposals.
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Extensive experience planning and supervising investigations and in writing/reviewing reports and technical communications.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), teamwork and mentorship skills are essential.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to contribute to the project by being a team player.
  • Travel will be required in this position, and candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments, generally within western Canada.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the manual field duties required.
  • Must be registered as a professional engineer in Alberta or equivalent Canadian provincial association, be legally entitled to work in Canada, and possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent)

Responsibilities:

  • The investigation, design, construction, and materials testing for concrete structures, foundations, embankments and trenches.
  • The development, interpretation and application of specifications and procedures associated with the construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Providing senior engineering support during construction activities
  • Mentoring and coaching junior staff members
  • Communicating with clients and sub-consultants and internal stakeholders
  • Participating in business development activities
  • Quality control and quality assurance processes and procedures
