EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Do you have experience working within mechanics industry? Are you a Senior Nechanical Design Engineer looking for a new challenge? Do you like working in a fast paced and challenging environment?
You will be part of a team creating innovative plug and play designs for mechanical, design & specifications from the concept and optioneering stage through to the outline and detailed design stage co-ordinating multi-discipline design input to support where necessary. Would you like to build your career in a place where you can grow?
You will deliver projects to programme, within budget, to the correct quality standards. Be part of developing the future design team!
Within this role you will:
- Engage with multiple stakeholders (internal / external) to understand the root cause of the business problem that the standard design is aiming to address.
- Contribute to the early development of commissioning plans.
- Act as EA liaison during feasibility and feedback any key learning and points to the team and into future designs.
- Ensure the standard plug and play solution is reviewed, benefit appraised, risks and learnings are captured, and the design is continually improved.
- Conclude the appropriate product solution (and costing, liaising with commercial)
- Understand and review potential delivery and operational risks e.g., H&S, environmental, commissioning.
You’ll be ensuring that appropriate expert mechanical advice is provided to the project team so that the standard solution has an effective handshake between Severn Trent Product Team and Site Design Teams to enable proper installation of products on site!
Responsibilities:
OUR PURPOSE IS TAKING CARE OF LIFE’S ESSENTIALS, BUT WE’RE ALSO BIG ON MAKING A DIFFERENCE, NOT JUST BECAUSE WE SHOULD BUT BECAUSE WE CARE.
AMP8, our next five-year regulatory period, will see us launch our biggest and most complex investment programme of almost £13bn, of which £6bn will be delivered through our capital programme. This is more than double the size of the AMP7 capital programme and is an opportunity to drive real change.
Our new Plug and Play approach will be a collection of common parts that can be connected in different ways and work together (like rigs or tanks). They can be mixed and matched to create a whole range of different products.
Picture this as your ready-made catalogue of standard products. You can simply select the parts you need and then they arrive ready to go all in one.
This new innovative approach will help to combat the challenges of waste and water infrastructure, flooding and water quality. Be a part of something bringing benefits to our communities, health outcomes and environment.
Our Plug & Play methodology will enable us to build smarter, faster, safer, greener and more affordable projects.
It could be the biggest challenge of your career. If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you.
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work within our Plug & Play team, truly delivering for the future.
This role can be based out of any our design HUB locations; STC, Raynesway or Finham.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.
We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care… because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.
We would be looking for someone who has:
- Successfully coached and provided building capabilities with the design team.
- Experience of BIM and its benefits.
- Knowledge on using CAD and digital tools.
- Practice of managing a product life cycle
- Extensive involvement on working closely with supply chain in delivering projects (with emphasis on adherence to CDM design specification, H&S, outputs, and quality).
- Demonstrated experience of the considerations given to risk management in construction and operational design
- Evidence of influencing key stakeholders to achieve pragmatic solutions.
- Degree qualified or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.
And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity, who help us do just that.
