SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGNER / DRAFTER

Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd.’s (KCB) Power and Transportation Group has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Designer/ Drafter to join our Vancouver office. This role will work on heavy civil infrastructure projects, including Hydroelectric, Transportation, and Marine facilities. The successful candidate will work as part of a project team alongside accomplished managers, engineers, designers, and drafters.

What you would engage in:

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for hydroelectric facilities.
  • Provide technical leadership among project teams of engineers, modelers, designers and drafters.
  • Foster multidisciplinary coordination, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Work closely with project managers to influence design decisions, ensure deliverables meet project timelines, and align with client expectations.
  • Ensure designs adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, corporate quality standards, and project specifications.
  • Introduce advanced design methodologies and tools to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Review and approve mechanical design models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and team members.

What we require:

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design Technology.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical design, and a minimum of five years focus on hydroelectric projects and powerhouses.
  • Proficiency with 3D parametric modeling and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Plant 3D, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems in hydroelectric facilities, including piping and HVAC systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and guide multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Knowledge of BC Hydro CAD standards is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership roles with an interest in developing less experienced staff.

The salary for this position is $95,000 to $120,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.
