Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Airport Baggage to join our team. This position is based out of Mississauga.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering field + 8 (eight) years of relevant experience.
    Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically, a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in a Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) engineering position at major international airports.
  • At least 5 years experience in a large capital program which could include new build or major terminal restoration / renovation.
  • Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Experienced in the specification, design, construction, and maintenance of BHS in major international airports.
  • Thorough working knowledge of system safety requirements, applicable codes, and regulations.
  • Especially strong experience and or expertise in the design, simulation, commissioning and maintaining of Baggage systems and their related HMI and control room standards is required.
  • Expert knowledge of Professional Mechanical and Industrial Engineering principles; theories and practice; GTAA technical standards and safe operating practices including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller); SCADA (System Control and Data Acquisition) / HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems.
  • Experienced in risk management and impact assessment in the planning and failure recovery of baggage handling systems to address and resolve operational related issues. Strong technical capability in all project phases and ability to solve complex problems including by using data analytics to support solution identification.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision making.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice, guidance and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to BHS design, construction, testing and commissioning including compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
  • Ensures that BHS design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
  • Assesses alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provides feedback as to the feasibility of the proposal and alignment to client requirements.
  • Coordinates the technical elements of the program with respect to BHS engineering including establishing targets / goals for the program.
  • Establish governance, processes, and procedures required to manage the interface between client and the contractor(s).
  • Work collaboratively with the program team to schedule and undertake design reviews in line with the requirements of the program.
  • Coordinates the interface between other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities, and assets.
  • Reviews deliverables submitted by the contractor / designer and confirms compliance to the relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Monitors the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch list, etc.).
  • Provides Management level progress reports and briefings with respect to structural design progress, issues, and opportunities.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of staff.
