Description:

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Function: Engineering
Reporting to: Mechanical Engineering Manager
Scope: Clarke Energy Ltd
Location: Knowsley with UK and International travel as required. Territories include but not limited to Ireland, Greece, Romania, Nigeria, Tanzania and the US.
Job Purpose: To support the Design section in order to produce Mechanical design of gas powered generation, CHP plants, Energy Centres and Energy storage systems, providing input and support at all stages of a project from sales through to installation.
Majority of time spent: Supporting the Design Section, translating and developing concepts into designs to meet the functional and contractual specifications of secured orders. Reviewing and approving designs for construction.

TECHNICAL/PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Good IT skills- Microsoft Office.
  • Current knowledge of the engineering design software available in the market place.
  • Project management.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD draughting package
  • Knowledge of other Mechanical design software tools

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate and develop concepts into designs to meet the functional and contractual specifications of secured orders, developing and detailing specifications, producing calculations and making component selection. Using Software to carry out load flow, fault analysis and protection studies.
  • Support and assist in the sales stage of a project by taking responsibility for ensuring that conceptual design and tender preparation documents are provided to meet the timescales and quality standards required for presentation to the customer/potential customer.
  • Liaise with the Electrical Design Engineer in identifying the project requirements and on the development of the detailed design.
  • Liaise with CAD draughtsman, coordinating and leading activity in order to ensure that the design packages are produced to the required timescales and standards of quality.
  • Provide support to the Project Manager during the design, installation commissioning and testing phases of the project, ensuring the timely production of all necessary documentation.
  • Liaise as necessary with existing and potential customers and their representatives.
  • Participate, and where appropriate lead, HAZOP and risk assessment studies.
  • Ensure that there is full adherence to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality management policies and procedures in all work undertaken.
  • Ensure design standards and specifications are up to date.
  • Ensure software requirements of the section are met and achieved.
  • Provide support to the Mechanical Engineers in terms of advice, development and approval/sign off for:
  • Design Chill
  • M&E Integration
  • Design Freeze
  • Function Design Specifications
  • Single Line Drawings
  • Be deputy leader of Mechanical Department when Mechanical Engineering Manager is absent
  • Support Mechanical Engineering Manager in administrative tasks (approving leave/expenses)
  1. Support Mechanical manager in managerial activities (personal development and disciplinary)
  • The Senior Mechanical Engineering sign off is to ensure the design process has been followed. The Senior Mechanical Engineering sign off also validates that general Mechanical engineering principles have been met. However, the Mechanical engineer assigned to the project is ultimately responsible for the detailed design and to ensure that all engineering and associated calculations are correct.
  • The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be allocated the role of Mechanical sign off, as listed above, to specific projects assessed by complexity and current workload.
  • Assist the Mechanical Engineering Manager and administrator with planning and scheduling of projects within the section.
