DRS Pivotal Power, Inc. is located in Bedford, Nova Scotia. DRS Pivotal Power is a leader in the design, development and manufacture of high reliability power conversion equipment for mission critical applications supporting all branches of the military in Canada, the US and many countries abroad. All products are designed and manufactured in house by our growing team of over 80 employees. DRS Pivotal Power is part of the Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics group and has currently over 30,000 fielded units boasting a field reliability of over 99%.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for mechanical design and drafting, as well as performing analysis of aerospace communications systems electronic packaging. The role will interact with other disciplines within the organization and participate in collaborative teamwork.
Responsibilities:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Involved with the design, fabrication and modification of mechanical and/or electro mechanical components, sub-systems and systems. May include Mechanical, Thermal, and Fluid Analysis, Mechanical Packaging, or others.
- Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services. Investigate solutions to product or process problems.
- Responsible for leading and mentoring a team of engineers on a technical activity and completion of activity on time and budget.
- Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems. Knowledge of military standards, including but not limited to MIL-STD-810, MIL-S-901, MIL-STD-167-1A, MIL-STD-1472 considered an asset.
- May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
- Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them.
- Provide budget, cost and schedule input for designs.
- Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services.
- Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
- Develop prototypes to evaluate designs.
- Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers as required.
- Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
- Lead and direct the work of others as assigned.
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.
- Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
- 10+ years professional experience in mechanical related projects
- Experience with Creo or similar 3D CAD program, experience using AutoCAD would be beneficial
- Computer literate with knowledge of MS-Office word-processing and spreadsheet programs
- Fluency in technologies and application domain
- Ability to lead a technical group independently
- Ability to produce quality technical work
- Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Works effectively as a member of a team or as the leader of a team
