ABOUT THE ROLE
Based at our Newstead office ideally, however open to candidates across Australia with relevant experience, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will directly support the Chief Engineer in undertaking their role, in particular by leading and participating in engineering projects and project components that require professional engineering oversight or input and providing engineering advice / support to the Chief Engineer where necessary. Through the review of complex engineering materials or developing complex engineering calculations, assessments and simulations the role will support the building of engineering capability at the NHVR and the improvement of safety and productivity of the heavy vehicle industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE ARE:
Provide sound engineering advice to the Chief Engineer, and other areas of NHVR as required, on heavy vehicle safety and productivity matters.
- Contribute to project work, reports, guidelines and engineering advice as directed
- Support the delivery of complex heavy vehicle engineering projects, project components and the resolution of technical issues in collaboration with Directors, Managers and project staff.
- Advise on the application of heavy vehicle standards, modifications, manufacturers’ specifications and Design Rules in accordance with both national and international standards.
- Assist the Chief Engineer in ensuring that advice and engineering input to projects, initiatives and processes is complete, accurate and reflects best practice.
- Assist the Chief Engineer in building and maintaining professional networks, relationships and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and represent the NHVR on required technical committees, engineering boards, working groups, committees and forums to increase awareness and understanding of best engineering practices.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL POSSESS
- Have 5+ years of experience in the mechanical engineer industry including the heavy vehicle vehicles.
- Hold a Mechanical Engineer Degree & RPEQ registered
- Demonstrated experience with Dynamics
- Previous exposure to computer simulation of vehicles e.g Universal Mechanism or similar would be advantageous.
