We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (Water) to join our dynamic Water & Wastewater Infrastructure team to support our fast growing business within Canada. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the design of pump stations, water wastewater treatment plants, showcasing exceptional technical expertise and problem-solving skills. Your primary role will be to lead the design phase of these critical water & wastewater projects, ensuring that they meet all regulatory requirements and client specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the mechanical portion of medium to large sized projects for water and wastewater pump stations & treatment facilities
  • Production of contract documents including plans and specifications
  • Performs heating/cooling and system hydraulic calculations
  • Develops Process and Control schematics
  • Develop and provide engineering input to General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Mentors and trains staff-level mechanical engineers
  • Enforces company and client standards on projects
  • Prepares construction and design cost estimates
  • Conducts quality management reviews of mechanical design
  • Participates in continuing editing and development of mechanical master specifications
  • Develops project specific specifications for unusual or unique instrumentation applications
  • Prioritizes and balances competing project demands and conflicting project requirements
  • Manages other mechanical engineers and CADD technicians to effectively complete work with attention to detail
  • Delegates tasks to others and follows ups on completion and quality of work
  • Identifies and consults with others on solutions to unusual, difficult, or complex tasks
  • Effectively participates in client contacts and business development efforts
  • Identifies alternatives, evaluates each, and determines appropriate actions to move forward
  • Makes solid and implementable decisions in a timely manner
  • Reduces complex aspects of mechanical engineering to terms understandable to others
  • Attends to details in preparation or review of calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Monitors scope, schedule, and budget and controls the work to the project plan
  • Understands, implements, and enforces company and client technical standards on project
  • Assist in writing technical proposals and bids.
  • Travel required when requested
  • Makes site visits to observe during construction and operation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10-15 years experience in the design of mechanical systems for water projects
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of national and local energy, mechanical and fire codes
  • Extensive knowledge of hazardous/classified area design
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, control strategies, and the development of control schematics based upon these documents
  • Proficient working with multi-discipline project teams, including a leadership role of mechanical project teams
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision on medium to large mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Expert in the design of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Understanding of projects at the conceptual level, and develops corresponding mechanical engineering scope of work, budget and schedule
  • Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine or moderately complex tasks
  • Ability to simultaneously think beyond past approaches and propose practical approaches to mechanical design and construction
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills that are well organized and persuasive
  • Proficient in public speaking roles
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with BIM and/or Navis Works or Revit
