About Us
The County Court of Victoria is established pursuant to the County Court Act 1958. It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears over 12,000 criminal, common law, and commercial cases each year. The County Court has unlimited monetary jurisdiction in common law and commercial matters. In its criminal jurisdiction, the Court hears all indictable offences except treason, murder, and related offences.
There are a total of 80 Judges of the Court and over 300 staff, including judicial support staff. The County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings at 12 circuit courts situated in major centres throughout regional Victoria.

About the Role
The role supports the Manager, Media, Digital and Engagement in providing strategic advice on critical risks and issues to the Chief Judge, the CEO and the Executive Director Governance, People, Policy and Communications. The role works to foster positive stakeholder relationships with media through supporting media engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate efficient responses to daily media enquiries.
  • Provide the Court’s leadership with strategic advice on media issues, drawing on understanding of the media landscape and knowledge of the legislation governing court reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate targeted media and communications strategies.
  • Manage consultation processes including complaints and feedback from media stakeholders on critical issues, working collaboratively with senior public sector stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to briefings and media training to support the Chief Judge and other judges’ media appearances.
  • Use knowledge of media interest in cases to forecast workloads and develop business plans to deliver on evolving priorities and allocation of resources.
  • Create and maintain case summaries and other content for the website.
  • Lead the Team’s Media Engagement Strategy to foster positive relationships with key media and other stakeholders and identify areas and opportunities for improvements.
  • Manage and lead complex media requests for access to sensitive historic criminal and civil case files.
  • Maintain the Media Portal and monitor and distribute Suppression Orders.
  • Compile and maintain detailed media clippings involving judges and the Court’s work.
    About You
    Demonstrated experience and record of achievement in communications, media, public relations and community engagement. Government experience will be looked upon favourably.
