Description:

DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Five (5) years of open pit mining experience in metals mining, including two (2) years of experience in overseeing the work of Engineers, Engineers in Training (EIT) and engineering technologist level staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geological/mine engineering (B.Eng);
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist or ability to obtain same. Professional registration is mandatory; and
  • Proficiency in mine planning and design software such as Surpac, MineSight, or similar.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop plans for open pit operations that align with corporate goals, ensuring optimal resource utilization and sustainable practices;
  • Collaborate with the mine management team to develop short-term and medium-term production designs, plans, and schedules;
  • Identify opportunities for production improvement, cost reduction, and process efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on safety and sustainability;
  • Create detailed mine designs, pit layouts, and production schedules, using advanced mining software and engineering principles;
  • Plan and coordinate drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling activities; Collaborate with the Mine Geology, Geotech, and Survey teams to ensure ore control, pit wall integrity, and accurate alignment with approved pit designs;
  • Ensure all mining plans and operations incorporate geological, geotechnical, and survey requirements for safe and efficient execution;
  • Provide mentorship to the direct reports and provide an environment that ensures their growth;
  • Collaborate with environmental teams to develop and implement sustainable mining practices and reclamation plans; and
  • Open pit implementation support and inspections;
  • Monitor daily operations, analyze data, and make recommendations for improvements; and
  • Ensure all mining activities adhere to safety regulations, environmental standards, and legal requirements. Implement safety programs and monitor their effectiveness.
