Network Engineer Consultant (Campus Routing and Switching)
Location: London
Description:
The Network Engineer Consultant will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure of our organization. This role requires a deep understanding of routing and switching technologies to ensure the efficient and secure transfer of data across the network.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement functional network infrastructure (routing, switching, Wi-Fi) that ensures the integrity and availability of information and access.
- Troubleshoot network issues and outages, schedule upgrades, and collaborate with network architects on network optimization.
- Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and by defining and monitoring access.
- Support and administer firewall environments in line with IT security policy.
- Update network equipment to the latest firmware releases.
- Report network operational status by gathering and prioritizing information.
- Manage and lead routing and switching projects, including the configuring and installation of new hardware, software, and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS), and the creation of policies and procedures related to network hardware and software.
- Provide technical support and consultation for IT and end-user departments.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer focusing on routing, switching, Cisco WiFi, Cisco SDAccess, Cisco ISE
- Knowledge of Cisco SDWAN a plus
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, 802.1x, QoS).
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
- Hands-on experience of automation/scripting and configuration management tools such as Ansible
- University degree in Computer Science or a related subject.
- Professional certification (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) is preferred.
- Experience with Cisco: switches, routers, firewalls, DNAC, ISE, WiFi.
Desirable skills:
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Documentation skills. (Visio a plus)
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask.
- Automation experience.
