Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF THE POST:
To support positive wellbeing of children or young person who present with significant behaviours of concern.
Through the application of the Positive Behaviour Support framework to promote skill development, activities of daily living, social engagement and relationships, community activity and school participation.
To strengthen family capacity to support their child/sibling’s wellbeing and quality of life.
To help staff increase their competence and confidence in supporting child/young person and their families to manage behaviours of concern and in adopting evidence- based support approaches.
TEAM DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To operate within St. Michael’s House Positive Behaviour Support Policy to support families, educational settings and support services to create environments that support child’s/young person’s wellbeing, learning and behaviour.
To collaborate with CDNT to deliver targeted family and child/young person supports on issues related to behaviours of concern as deemed appropriate and in response to need.
Manage a clinical caseload based on the clinical need of the service. To prioritise referrals and manage waiting lists in order to optimise the quality, efficacy and equity of the service provided.
To contribute and support development and monitoring of a child’s Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) in line with family-centred practice and PDS principles.
To support positive behaviour support competency development in CDNT’s through provision of training, mentoring and coaching.
To work in collaboration with all members of the CBST interdisciplinary team to conduct comprehensive dynamic assessments, formulation, and intensive interventions across settings. This includes skills and experience in differential diagnosis, mental health assessment & providing therapeutic supports to the child and their family.
To formulate and design positive behaviour supports with the aim to improve wellbeing, quality of life and develop a child’s/young person’s adaptive life skills.
To support the implementation of positive behaviour support plans and clinical interventions through naturalistic environmental teaching in family home, social care or educational settings.
To monitor and review positive behaviour support plans in collaboration with child/young person and family.
To ensure clinical and organisational risks are identified, assessed, supported, and escalated appropriately.
To conduct risk assessments and evidencing business cases to support HSE funding.
To promote a Human Rights model of a preventive proactive approach in reducing and eliminating restrictive practices through provision of a ‘capable environment’ and maintaining a supportive emotional, physical, social and learning environment.
To maintain a high standard of clinical record keeping, including completion of professional reports in a timely manner in line with professional codes of practice and St. Michael’s House/CDNT policies and procedures.
To always maintain ethical and professional standards.
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities, appropriate to the grade of the post.
SPECIFIC OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROLE:
To provide quality evidence-based Occupational Therapy services to children and their families referred to CDNT who present with complex needs arising from a combination of intellectual/physical/sensory disabilities.
To provide an Occupational Therapy perspective in the clinical formulation and practice in CDNT’s and support services, e.g. occupation/engagement focus, sensory processing theory, etc.
To offer a range of Occupational Therapy interventions to children, young person, or their family.
To conduct comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment to support clinical formulation, inform clinical intervention or access to services.
