QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Each candidate must on the latest date for receipt of completed application form to this office possess:

  • Hold an Occupational Therapy qualification recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
  • Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
  • All candidates must have 3 years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience.
  • All candidates must demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the specialism.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Occupational Therapist will work at in line with their competency level; providing specialist assessment and interventions for patients who are over 65 and may be frail in the Emergency Department. The role will include but not be limited to:

  • Cognitive assessments.
  • Functional assessments.
  • Assessment of transfers and functional mobility.
  • Holistic needs assessment.
  • Developing care plans and interventions to either discharge the patient to home from ED or facilitate an early discharge if the patient is admitted.
  • In conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager and FIT colleagues, lead service planning and development by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users.
  • Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team.
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of their own work including the management of patients in their care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under their management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
  • Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service and professional standards.
  • Communicate verbally and/ or in writing results of assessments, treatment/intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
  • To work within the multidisciplinary team ethos and liaise with staff to ensure that effective communication takes place at all times.
  • Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences etc. as designated by Occupational Therapist Manager.
  • Be responsible for adhering to existing standards and protocols and for leading out on the development and maintenance of standards / strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement.
  • Seek advice and assistance with any assigned duties in line with principles of evidence-based practice and clinical governance
  • Incorporate national and international Evidence Based Occupational Therapy Practice (EBOTP) into their practice.
  • Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics, and legislation.
  • Operate within the scope of Occupational Therapy practice within Ireland and in accordance with local guidelines.
  • Will adhere to the Ethics for Occupational Therapists from CORU and the AOTI.
  • To serve on and advise such committees that may be set up relevant to this area of clinical specialty.
  • To undertake other appropriate responsibilities consistent with the nature of the post as specified by the Occupational Therapy Manager.
