SPEN are currently recruiting a Senior Design Engineer (OHL) to join the SP Manweb Project Team to take ownership of projects of greater value and complexity whilst coaching/mentoring and developing others within the department or project team. Technically, they will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions for networks projects (33 & 132kV) including designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice, coaching and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.
What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will:

  • Lead in the development of pre-contract design of OHL systems and other associated equipment.
  • Prepare engineering specifications for OHL system designs
  • Drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes.
  • Prepare and/or review OHL drawings and technical specifications for construction
  • Ensure OHL system designs are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
  • Lead the technical resolution of site/construction OHL related issues.
  • Represent department or project teams regarding OHL engineering issues, decisions, standards, or industry best practice.
  • Implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.

What you’ll bring
You will have strong inter-personal and communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills along with the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments, and businesses.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Degree in and engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Awareness of UK design codes and standards.
  • Experience using PLS-CADD software.
  • Proven significant experience and knowledge in a responsible position in the area of high voltage OHL networks and associated equipment.
