Senior Ophthalmology Support Worker

The post holder will work as part of a team of nursing staff and will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and non-direct care for the benefit of the patient, and will be in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse.
You may be required to undertake administrative / reception duties within this role.
This role covers the Pembrokeshire area, where care is delivered mainly from Withybush General Hospital, with planned work carried out at the Cardigan Integrated Care Centre once a week. Due to constant service developments, there may be occasional work delivered from other sites, or support required on other sites where Ophthalmology is provided, and being able to travel between sites is an essential part of the role.
The post holder will be expected to follow local training upon starting the role, to enable them to work at the required level.

This post is of an evolving nature and the job description is based upon a flexible core competency framework that will enable the post holder to develop their role. This role is linked clearly to minimum training requirements providing competency to practice.
Following the completion of training and achievement of core competencies they will be expected to deliver a range of basic nursing duties to patients, ensuring that privacy, dignity and respect are maintained at all times.
Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.
Five community hospitals: Amman Valley Hospital and Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire, Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.
Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).

COMMUNITY FACILITIES, INCLUDING:

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

• Annex 21 * This post is advertised as a Band 3 and ideally candidates for this role must have achieved the Level 3 NVQ/Agored Cymru training, in an ophthalmology / health care related subject appropriate to role, or equivalent experience such as covering clinics independently, independently performing diagnostic tests on a variety of Ophthalmology equipment, such as visual fields tests and OCTs. However applicants who do not currently hold the qualification for the Band 3 role are encouraged to apply, and if successful, will need to attain the qualification within 12 months and will be appointed under the All Wales Annex 21 rules

This means they will be supported by a development plan. ( During the first year payment will be 75% of the top rate of band 3 pay) and following successful completion of the Level 3 NVQ/Agored Cymru training, in an ophthalmology / health care related subject appropriate to role the post holder will then be paid at Band 3 (minimum point on the scale). Support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the successful applicant to the Band 3 role. Failure to achieve the qualification and required competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
