About You / What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a talented Senior Paralegal to join our team of experienced real estate and property development legal professionals in a permanent full-time capacity. This unique opportunity allows you to contribute your detail oriented and independent judgement skills and expertise in a work environment that values public service and the balance between professional commitment and employee well-being.

Reporting to the Assistant City Solicitor, and working closely alongside a team of lawyers, another paralegal and a legal assistant, you will:

  • Prepare and process a variety of legal documents required in the acquisition and development of land for municipal and other purposes, including conveyancing documents, applications to deposit plan, road cancellation applications, municipal land title notices, statutory rights of way, covenants, options to purchase, and housing agreements.
  • Manage the legal documentation required for complex land development applications such as major mixed-used high rises, phased development, airspace subdivisions and other forms of urban land development
  • Conduct land title reviews and due diligence searches.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners, fostering strong relationships to facilitate seamless communication and coordination on land transactions and development applications.
  • As an expert in your field, provides direction, guidance, and support to internal partners as needed.
  • Take on special projects and unique assignments that will allow you to innovate and make a tangible impact on our local community’s development initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience as a real estate paralegal working on commercial land acquisitions and complex land development projects, and have familiarity with municipal development application processes as well as conveyancing procedures. You will also have an in-depth knowledge of the Land Title Act and Land Title Survey Authority practices. You must be detail-oriented, proactive and have the ability to multi-task as well as to build and maintain strong working relationships, working collaboratively in a team setting. These attributes will be matched with a diploma or certificate in an accredited paralegal program, along with registration with the British Columbia Paralegal Association.
What We Offer:
This CUPE position has an annual salary range of $44.20 - $52.20 (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
