Job Description
As the Senior Patient-Specific Design Engineer at Treace Medical Concepts, you will be responsible for reviewing and generating 3D CAD designs of patient-specific products from the initial patient need through to final manufacture and delivery. This role involves leading surgeon calls to determine patient needs and managing case planning prioritization to support high-quality production and inspection of finished products, ensuring timely delivery.
You will support ongoing product development, process improvement, and automation projects to advance the development of patient-specific devices. This includes creating 2D and 3D drawings, sharing technical and process expertise on project teams, and creating technical documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical design; Biomechanical Engineer preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical design and manufacturing engineering experience; Medical device development experience and/or internships preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience interacting with surgeons required, preferably in orthopedics
  • Experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate in Mechanical Design (CSWA) certification preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Collaboration:
  • Lead surgeon calls to determine patient-specific needs for their cases and develop positive, collaborative relationships
  • Attend surgeries with new surgeon customers, provide technical guidance on proper clinical use and techniques to ensure optimal outcomes and an excellent customer experience
  • Collaborate directly with Product Management and Engineering to improve product performance and customer satisfaction
  • Design and Review:
  • Review designs of patient-specific cut guides by analyzing CT scan data using image segmentation software and SOLIDWORKS for 2D and 3D modeling.
  • Create pre-operative plans for surgeons to use in cases.
  • Assist in assembling models, guides, manuals, and plans
  • Project Management:
  • Manage day-to-day case design prioritization by following up with surgeons and customers for missing inputs
  • Work cross-functionally both internally and externally with vendors to ensure timely production and delivery of custom guides.
  • Perform quality checks as needed to ensure high-quality production and inspection of finished products.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Support software developers and project engineers as a point of contact.
  • Provide feedback on the development of automation software and process improvements.
  • Assist in implementing process improvement strategies, optimizing current processes, and enhancing process scalability.
  • Team Training:
  • Conduct clinical product training for the patient-specific design team
