Description:

At SMS Equipment, our Senior Payroll Coordinator is responsible for activities, processes and deadlines as they related to the company’s payrolls. The Senior Payroll Coordinator will act as a point of escalation for a team of payroll coordinators. This position is in Acheson, AB.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years experience working and processing full cycle inhouse payroll and a PCP certification. Additional requirements include:

  • Previous experience mentoring a payroll team.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience completing year end processes e.g. T4, T2200 etc.
  • Excellent analytical skills and an attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of cloud-based payroll and accounting systems, preferably UKG and Vena.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel to include pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, complex calculations, quick formatting and short cuts.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of payroll regulations, and the ability to interpret legislation and collective agreements and how they affect system and process configuration.
  • Demonstrated technical and functional expertise in payroll operations or analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with cross-functional collaboration and customer service.
  • Experience with multi jurisdictional payroll.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and approve biweekly, semi monthly, and international payrolls.
  • Review and check payroll accuracy, changes, corrections along side payroll administrators.
  • Oversee the administration of employee RRSP plans, including enrolment, contributions, and liaison with pension providers when applicable.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior payroll staff, resolving complex payroll-related issues and queries.
  • Assist in the creation of process manuals, and payroll scripts to define each payroll group.
  • End of year process, estimating hours, updating or checking updates on legislative taxes.
  • Analyse and approve CRA payments, WCB payment preparation, EHT payment preparation.
  • Understand GL mapping for set ups and mapping T4.
  • Participate and test implementations of payroll system upgrades or enhancements.
  • Conduct periodic payroll reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies or errors.
  • Work collaboratively with HR Services, Compensation, Operations, and Finance teams to confirm pay and tax implications resulting from proposed changes to compensation elements.
  • Perform detailed reports for labour costing to support department and operational requirements.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries and requests for payroll analytical support.
  • Monitoring the changing legislative and regulatory landscape and hold weekly meetings to deliver changes, and updates in legislation to the team.
  • Complete system configuration changes to comply to achieve compliance
  • Prepare reports, audits, estimating, Retro calculations.
  • Support payroll administrators and coordinators with establishing and achieving yearly performance review goals.
  • Present and create educational materials to support team development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
