Senior Peer Specialist

For over 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness. Our Clinics are community-based which offer a professional and welcoming environment for both clients and staff. The Clinics provide psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological therapy, as well as individual, group, family therapy, crisis intervention, medication management, case management and collateral sessions. Our staff members follow an approach to health care that emphasizes wellness, recovery, trauma-informed care, and physical-behavioral health integration.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Provisional New York State Peer Specialist Certification
- 4 years’ experience providing peer support services to individuals living with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders.
- 1 years of experience in a supervisory role strongly preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique role of peer staff and how those team members can be integrated into CCNS’ integrated care team
- Demonstrated ability to promote recovery for diverse populations impacted by mental health and/or substance use disorders
- Knowledge of CCBHC, NYSOMH, and/or OASAS regulations/requirements preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to include the ability to coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team in order to support whole person care.
- Ability to read and write.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Ability to Travel
Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise CCNS’ team of Peer Specialists and Advocates, assuring high-quality peer support services are provided to clients served by CCNS
- Promote a supportive and safe environment for peer staff that includes opportunities for peer staff to provide input to improve processes on behalf of clients served. Work closely with CCNS’ management team to consider and implement process improvements when requested
- Collaboratively identify each peer staff member’s strengths and areas of professional growth, working with leadership to provide/connect peer specialists with needed training and other professional development opportunities
- Facilitate a weekly group supervision meeting with all peer staff, with a focus on workplace wellness and self-care for peer staff specifically
- Use motivational interviewing, recovery, and trauma-informed approaches when delivering peer services
- Collaborate with the team to assist in care planning, including identifying services clients should receive based on their immediate needs and treatment goals
- Assist clients and their families with linkages to needed services within the behavioral health, human services, and criminal justice systems as appropriate
- Act as an advocate and liaison for clients and family members in accessing resources to support treatment plan goals
- Conduct outreach to potential clients as well as those who unexpectedly disengage from clinic services, with the goal of engaging individuals in services based on their needs and preference
