AGL’s Renewables team have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Performance & Optimisation Engineer focused on Grid-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). AGL currently dispatch four grid-scale batteries in the National Electricity Market including the 250MW Torrens Island BESS, with significant growth in our pipeline with our commitment of 12GW of renewable energy by 2035.
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager (BESS), the incumbent will be performing complex technical assignments that optimise the performance of our new battery assets.

What you’ll be doing:

• Defining performance KPIs for AGL’s BESS assets to align the efforts of the Operations and Trading teams
• Building sophisticated analytics systems to precisely track the performance of BESS subsystems including batteries and inverters
• Identifying and quantifying opportunities to optimise the operations of BESS assets
• Collaborating with a variety of stakeholders to drive change and maximise value (site teams, Renewables engineering, Trading team, external bodies such as AEMO and Network operators)

What you’ll bring:

• Experience in a technical engineering discipline including demonstrated experience interfacing with a broad range of stakeholders to drive improvement
• Significant Analytics experience, especially working with field timeseries data and field data acquisition systems at a large scale. Most of our automation tools are built on Python.
• Experience in Renewables (Batteries, Wind, Solar) preferred but not essential – this is an emerging industry and skills are often transferrable from similar engineering disciplines
• Exposure to Asset Performance and Energy Trading an advantage
• Leadership and values that align with AGL – a safe, innovative and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or closely related discipline
• Demonstrated analytics capability through study or professional experience
