Primary objective
Perform regulatory assessments, provide advice and carry out monitoring and compliance activities as part of the regulation
of the upstream and midstream petroleum and geothermal industries in the Northern Territory .
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the ongoing management, reporting and monitoring of orphan wells, decommissioning and decommissioned wells
across the Northern Territory, taking account of current and emerging research, appropriate industry standards,
processes, guidelines and legislation and subordinate regulations.
2. Perform the duties of an inspector under relevant legislation which includes conducting compliance and monitoring
activities onsite, involving overnight periods in remote locations.
3. Review and assess reports and notifications submitted under Northern Territory petroleum and geothermal energy
legislation and investigate and report on incidents as required.
4. Develop policies, guidelines, and procedures for regulating petroleum and geothermal energy operations.
5. Provide a high-level of professional advice to government and industry in relation to petroleum wells, including the
preparation of reports, memorandums, briefs, and complex correspondences as required.
6. Lead and support a small team to achieve key objectives within set timeframes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary Degree in a relevant field of engineering.
2. Significant experience in well engineering, including construction and/or intervention and well integrity management.
3. Experience working in environments that require a strict adherence to safety including process safety.
4. Demonstrated experience managing risk whether strategic, compliance and/or operational in nature.
5. Demonstrated experience in the application or interpretation of legislation, conducting audits and/or inspections and
incident investigations.
6. Proven ability to effectively communicate and negotiate outcomes with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
and work cohesively in a team environment.
7. Demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of detailed reports,
memorandums, briefings, and complex correspondence and proven experience in respectfully communicating verbally
to a variety of stakeholders.
8. Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating a small team that delivers timely outcomes, which includes
establishing work programs, being flexible with changing priorities and working unsupervised in remote locations.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
2. Valid Driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one
