SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated competence in multiple pharmacy practice areas, with strong technical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, complemented by effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, adapting to workplace needs with enthusiasm and drive.
  • Physical capability to perform required duties, including lifting, pushing, and stocking.

LEADERSHIP AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in a hospital pharmacy setting, with demonstrated leadership, coaching, and teaching skills (AHA4 role requires supervisory and managerial expertise).
  • Proficiency in Pharmacy Management Software, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office tools, with the ability to use gap analysis and implement training tools (AHA4 role).
  • Experience in supervising, mentoring, and developing staff in a high-performing team environment.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical products, medical terminology, and pharmacy production and dispensing methods.
  • Familiarity with the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, Code of Good Manufacturing Practice, and patient confidentiality principles.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our pharmacy team and lead the Clinical Pharmacy Assistant and Technicians team. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of safe and cost-effective drug therapy, achieving optimal patient outcomes in a dynamic and supportive environment. Your responsibilities will include direct patient facing work to support the activities of the clinical pharmacists including workload prioritisation, obtaining best possible medication histories, medication supply and generating medication profiles. You will manage a team of pharmacy assistants and technicians to coordinate and prioritise workloads, provide training to new staff, review staff performance and support the operational needs of the clinical pharmacy team and the broader pharmacy department. This role involves managing complex workloads an representing the department on hospital and SA Pharmacy committees, driving improvements and innovation in pharmacy services. As an AHA3, you will work under the guidance of the AHA or AHP leader, providing advanced support to deliver a comprehensive pharmacy service. Your responsibilities will include clinical dispensing and distribution, packaging of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, and training staff. You will also assist with organising daily workloads, monitoring quality, and contributing to the preparation and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. By collaborating with supervisors and Pharmacy Manager(s), you will ensure the delivery of efficient and high-quality pharmacy services.
The AHA4 role builds on these responsibilities with a leadership focus, where you will manage a team of support staff, intern pharmacists, and students. You will coordinate and prioritise workloads, review staff performance, and lead the development and evaluation of workplace policies and procedures. This role involves managing complex workloads and representing the department on hospital and SA Pharmacy Committees, driving improvements and innovation in pharmacy services.
