The general salary range for this position is $130,000 – 158,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Senior Philanthropy Officer for the Philanthropy department. In this position you will cultivate, solicit, and steward current and new donors within the Florida. You will generate income towards a set fundraising target.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience, required. Master’s degree preferred;
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in development, donor engagement, or another related field required;
- Willing and able to travel and work a flexible schedule;
- High level of confidence, integrity, interpersonal skills, and a professional executive presence for effectively interacting with and influencing others;
- Knowledge of moves management and CRM database systems preferred;
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
- Ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution and conflict management with excellent interpersonal and intervention skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes;
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
- Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
This is a remote position based in Florida, Orlando or southern Florida preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Generates income to meet set fundraising targets via donations from an assigned portfolio of over one hundred donors for the Philanthropy department. Plans and implements major donor cultivation and solicitation strategies including moves management. Researches prospective donors and creates proposals;
- Engages and builds relationships with donors including through email, phone, correspondence, and visits. Follows up on marketing campaigns, individual inquiries, and personal outreach to generate leads and develop contacts for solicitation. Connects donors to staff and volunteers and to program funding areas of potential interest;
- Maintains records and database of donor contacts and activity and return on investment. Logs calls, proposals, and gifts;
- Follows through on gifts by providing acknowledgements. Prepares and provides impact reports for donors who give to specific programs;
- Assists in planning, managing sponsorships, and other logistics of major donor galas, collaborating with the Events team as needed. Partners with donors to create and host small house party events and fundraisers and follows up with participants. Promotes events and programs including Humane Journeys to donors;
- Collaborates and coordinates activities and strategy with the Philanthropy team, including through trainings, reports, and meetings. Connects Board members, other staff and partners, and external affiliates with volunteer opportunities on fundraising campaigns;
- Keeps abreast of achievements, victories, and other developments in the organization and among affiliates, to ensure the ability to provide donors and prospects with full, accurate, and specific information. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends in the philanthropy field;
- Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
