Description:

This position will form part of the leadership group and assist the Specimen Collection manager in the management of a large team of Specimen Collection staff at the Gold Coast University Hospital and contribute to ensuring training consistency across the group.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Advance level of technical skills in Specimen Collection
  • Proven understanding of adult learning principles and how these are integrated in a workplace to achieve superior performance.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire new practical skills within the workplace including ieMR digital hospital applications.
  • Ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
  • Ability to deliver training and support in all aspects of Phlebotomy and Specimen Collection staff within the GCUH Specimen Collection work units and actively support staff to achieve their professional and organisational goals.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of standard precaution in dealing with patient and clinical specimens.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the procedures and processes of Specimen Collection or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and skills in this area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet the clinical needs of patients and to ensure an efficient client-focused service.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, nursing and medical staff and with other pathology staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to positive outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to implement quality systems which meet NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practised with particular reference to Queensland Health Code of Conduct, employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be highly regarded
  • Certificate III or Certificate IV Pathology Specimen Collection is desirable.
  • Attendance at Train the Trainer short courses or equivalent is desirable.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
